The All Whites have opened their North American tour with a three-goal defeat to Mexico. Make sure you join us again on Tribe for live commentary of their next clash with the USA on Wednesday. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
A tough day at the office in contrast for New Zealand, and they were never able to make their mark. The early goal forced them onto the back foot early, and despite holding on for long stages through the first half, the dam wall finally broke again in the second stanza, and they were pulled apart. Bazeley's pressing plan was an innefective today, and they struggled to keep hold of the ball when they had possession, making a number of errors. Wood, Barbarouses, and Old were also cut out of the game, and the All Whites weren't able to muster a single shot on target throughout the contest. They'll want to show a lot more when they tackle the USA in a few days.
Routine for Mexico today, and they were never really forced to work hard for it. They dictated the majority of possession and territory, and continually exposed the New Zealand defence with an intricate array of forward running lines and passes. Their movement was simply too much for the Kiwis to handle, and it looked a training run at times, particuarly in the second half. El Tri could have scored more goals too, striking the woodwork twice, once in either half, and spurning a couple of other decent opportunities. Nevertheless it's the perfect start for Javier Aguirre upon his return to the Mexican coaching role, and they'll move forward with some confidence.
Fulltime at the Rose Bowl and Mexico have cruised to a three-goal victory over New Zealand. Orbelin Pineda set them on their way with an early goal inside the first five minutes, before El Tri sealed the win with two goals in the space of four minutes in the second half through Cesar Huerta and Luis Romo, dominating from start to finish in authorative fashion. The All Whites were outclassed from the get go and couldn't get anywhere near their opponents today, and Javier Aguirre has marked his return to the Mexican dugout with a victory.

Just two minutes of injury-time at the end of this one, and Mexico take their time with the free kick on halfway, before playing it back for Vasquez. Waine tries to press, and forces a loose pass over the sideline.

Huerta goes for goal from a long way out, but he can't keep his effort down, and blazes the ball high over the crossbar off his right foot. Crocombe plays the goal kick kick short, but Mexico press and steal possession straight back.
