That is all we have time for on Tribe as Switzerland progresses to the quarter-finals defeating Italy with ease. I have been Elliot Thompson and thank you for joining me. Make sure you stay with us on Tribe as Germany face Denmark in another round of 16 clash in under an hour.
Switzerland will now face either England or Slovakia in the quarter-finals a week today in Dusseldorf. For Italy meanwhile, they do not have another competitive game for another 69 days as they face France in the Nations League. They will have to dust themselves down for that one after that woeful display.
Italy didn't look like they had any sort of game plan from the off as they were so flat. The fact that didn't change at any point in the game is the biggest shock. The closest they came was from Schar who nearly headed the ball into his own net after a hopeful cross from Fagioli. Scamacca did also hit the post from close range but he looked like he may have been offside. Apart from that they didn't threaten Sommer in goal and it is a very sorry way to exit the tournament that they are the holders of. Luciano Spalletti has a lot of work to do.
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THEIR HISTORY SWITZERLAND ARE GOING TO THE QUARTER-FINALS OF THE EUROS! Switzerland have advanced to the last eight as they swept aside an Italy side that was seemingly feeling sorry for themselves. From the first minutes, Switzerland were in control and knocking on the door as Italy didn't know what to do. The opening goal was a splendid finish as Vargas picked out Freuler with a low cross. He took one touch to control then another to finish past Donnarumma at his near post. Just under 30 seconds into the second half Vargas himself got on the scoresheet. On the left side of the box, he bent in a delicious shot into the top right corner. Italy hadn't shown any sort of attacking intent and after that second goal, it was a given that Switzerland were the nation that was going through.

A very late change from Switzerland as Michael Aebischer comes off for Renato Steffen. He goes over to the left wing.

Chiesa breaks forward on the right flank but then opens his arms up as if to say where is everyone? He turns backwards to end any momentum for Italy as they work it over to the left. Cambiaso has possession but he then can only pass backwards.

APPEALS FOR A PENALTY! Pellegrini crosses the ball from the right flank to the back post. It comes through to Sierro and it appears to hit his arm. Spalletti is fuming as he shouts at the referee but nothing is given. VAR seem to agree as well.
