Next up for Serbia is a crucial match against Slovenia in Munich. England will travel to Frankfurt to play Denmark. But, that's all from me for this Euro 2024 match between Serbia and England. I've been Danny Johnston, thanks for following along live on Tribe.
England looked very much in control in the first 45 minutes. They were calm and dictated the tempo of the match with ease. The second half was a different story and they were put under some serious pressure by Serbia. They were still able to restrict their opponents to long shots and half chances at the very most. But, there will be a bit of concern with the lack of attacking chances created. Kane and Foden, two of the best during the club season, were kept very quiet. Bellingham was probably England's best in midfield, while Guehi and Stones showed signs of forming a solid defensive partnership.
Serbia will take some heart from their performance, particularly in the second half. After going behind early, it looked like they may get comfortably beat. But, they stayed compact and their three centre backs were excellent aerially. In the second half they moved further up the field to put some real pressure on England and last year's runners up showed some genuine angst in their defensive third. They won't get any points from this one, but Serbia know that their most important matches are upcoming against Denmark and Slovenia.
ENGLAND START EURO 2024 WITH A WIN! It wasn't a vintage performance by any stretch of the imagination. But, it's a clean sheet and, thanks to an early Jude Bellingham goal, three points to move them to the top of Group C. Serbia threw a bit more at England in the second half but weren't able to get a clear sight on Pickford's goal.
90+4'
Into the final minute of added time as Serbia launches the ball forward. Jovic was making a run in behind but Walker heads it away. As England clear, Kane uses all of his experience to win a free kick under challenge from Milenkovic.
90+3'
Ilic lines up a shot from 25 yards out on his left foot. England get a body in the way to make an important block.
90+3'
Tadic sweeps the ball out wide to Birmancevic. His cross is blocked by Tippier but it will be kept under control by Serbia. Ilic gets it out wide to Mladenovic. His cross is also blocked by Bowen on this occasion.
90+2'
Gallagher is again caught, this time on the ankle by Ilic. Free kick to England around 35 yards from goal. Rice will take his time over it.
90+1'
Gallagher and Mainoo exchange passes around halfway on the right. Gallagher is caught and it's yet another free kick to England.
