That's all we've got time for on Tribe, I'm afraid. Until next time, this is James Messenger saying goodbye!
On paper, it's a victory which looks emphatic from a Dutch perspective. But the reality is that Ronald Koeman's side needed to show real grit and determination to overcome a Romanian side that have lots to be proud of. In the end, it was the contributions of Cody Gakpo and half-time substitute Donyell Malen that did the damage - the former man bagging a goal and opportunistic assist before Malen added gloss to the scoreline with his second of the game in stoppage time. Further chances went begging for the Dutch, but they'll be mightily pleased with a good night's work. Up next, they'll face either Austria or Turkey in the last eight. Those two meet in around one hour's time.
The Netherlands sail through to the quarter-finals!

A yellow card seems to have been waved in the direction of Malen, presumably for his exuberant celebrations in front of the Romania supporters after that goal.

THAT SEALS IT! Donyell Malen has two, the Dutch have three, and their place in the last eight of Euro 2024 is secured! From defending a free-kick at one end to breaking with pace to the other, Simons shows real hunger to beat his man to a loose ball and stab a pass in the direction of Malen, who charges forward from inside his own half. The Romanian defensive line retreats as the Dutch substitute decides to ignore the options to his right and go for solo glory. The Borussia Dortmund forward approaches the box, skips inside beyond the nearest defender then drills the ball past Nita at his left-hand post. A wonderful finish!

The stop-start nature of these closing minutes continue, with the Dutch sending on reinforcements in the shape of Delay Blind. He replaces former Manchester United team-mate Memphis Depay.
