It was a game Belgium needed to show up for if they were to carry any hope to go far in this tournament and they did just that. Romania were on a high after their last game but the men in red brought them crashing down quickly, with Tielemans opening the scoring with the first two minutes. From there they dominated the game, racking up 20 shots and having a goal disallowed before De Bruyne sealed the win late on.

Long ball over the top and De Bruyne almost drifts in behind, but Nita is awake to the danger and beats him to it. A bit of a collision after the claim but it's all handshakes and smiles.

BIG CHANCE! De Bruyne gets fouled but Carrasco picks up the loose ball and weaves through some weak tackles, before sliding Trossard down the right channel! He's through on goal, waits for Nita to come and tries to slip it square for Lukaku, but Dragusin is in the road!

Romania on the other hand will still be flying high from their demolition of the much more fancied Ukraine. Long range strikes from Stanciu and Razvan Marin, admittedly aided by some poor goalkeeping, showcased the Tricolours energy and attacking mindset. Previous to that they had only ever won one single game at the Euros, back in 2000 against England. They currently sit top of the table though, and in a format where it's likely three teams from this group will advance, it's clear they hold their fate in their own hands from here.

TACKLE! The game is really starting to open up now and Lukebakio once more beats the offside line to race into acres of space. He heads towards the right channel, but Bancu gets back in time to make a great tackle in his own box, and concede the corner.

Belgium win a corner and De Bruyne, accidentally or not, seems to swing it directly towards the far post top corner. Nita is comfortable in the take though.

Lukaku again finds himself with space inside Romania's box, but this time they can push him wide to the right. He looks to turn and go backwards, but the Tricolours have retreated quickly to nick the ball back.

SAVE! Another short corner routine from Belgium and this time it's Doku shooting from a tight angle towards the near post. It's hit with real power, but Nita theatrically pushes it away.

Belgium just trying to hold on to it for a bit now, looking to slow down the game and get a breath in.

Clipped over to the back post by Razvan Marin, and Dragusin again rises up but Belgium get a flick to it first and head it behind.

Romania make a sub in the wake of the goal, with Alibec coming on up front.

INCREDIBLE START FROM BELGIUM! Lukaku bursts forward through the middle and finds Doku outside him on the left. He holds it up and waits for an age, before firing it back to Lukaku's feet on the penalty spot. He lays it back for the arriving Tielemans, who fizzes a low shot into the bottom left of the goal! What a way to silence the yellow fans!

Romania's coach insisted prior to this that he wouldn't be making wholesale changes, and he's proved a man of his word. Just the one change for them, with Mihalia, who was a shining light in qualifying, getting the nod on the left ahead of Coman.

Doku is having a field day up the left, again beating Ratiu in a footrace and flying up the left. He finds Lukaku inside but the control isn't there in the first instance this time. Onana pokes it back to Doku, who tries a one-two with Lukaku this time but Romania are there in numbers to cut it out.

SAVE! De Bruyne finds Lukaku on the spot once more, and he spins to his right for a snapshot. Nita is perfectly placed though, with the ball smacking his chest and bouncing away!

SAVE! Lukaku gets into the right channel now, and using a surprising burst of pace to get around Bancu. He tees up his right foot, but the angle counts against him and Nita can throw a leg and block his right foot shot. 

CHANCE! Doku hunts in midfield and gets a toe on a ball, which flies to Lukaku up front. He slides it to De Bruyne on the left, before it's slid wonderfully behind the defence and across the goal to Doku. All he needs is a touch, but he can't lunge at it and it skids past.

BIG CHANCE! Romania go long and Alibec is in on goal! He tries to touch it past Casteels, but it doesn't have any legs on it and Castagne strolls back to clear it before the goal line. Some questions over whether Alibec was taken down during the shot but nothing doing.

Lacklustre and disappointing are best used to describe Belgium's opening performance during their shock loss to Slovakia. They're a side bulging with talent, but with a history of underperforming on the big stage and it wouldn't be off brand for them to underwhelm their fans once more. However, they weren't without their chances against the Slovakians, and had two Lukaku goals ruled out by VAR. At some stage this Belgium attacking force could click, and the Romanians will be hoping it isn't today.

Plenty of niggly fouls in this game and finally we have a yellow card! Lukebakio is sold short up the wing, and Mihaila toes it away in front of him, before being scythed down. Easy decision.

Belgium win a free kick inside Romania's half over to the right side. They put the big targets in the box and De Bruyne delivers, but it's uncharacteristically poor from the captain, flying high over the danger zone. Whistle had gone anyway against Faes.

Second half running! Romania have it first and look expansive early.

Trossard gets himself tee'd up on the right side for a cross, but this is a poor one that floats over the byline.

Trossard gets on the ball down the left and cuts it back into the middle. Belgium are slow in getting anyone there and Nita calls for it, but Mihaila comes back into the box and puts it behind for a corner instead. NIta isn't happy.

Back running and Belgium target that right wing once more but this time Romania clear it.

Trossard yet again finding space up the right side, but this time his cross towards Carrasco at the back stick is cut out.

Long diagonal ball towards the left side of the box for Romania, but Casteels again gets there just before the Romanian chaser in Mihaila.

And there's the whistle, with Belgium getting all three points here.

Belgium make a couple of swaps now and it's Tielemans and Doku, who have both been fantastic, making way for Carrasco and Mangala.

Romania haven't been without the odd glimpse, with both Dragusin and Burca having strong headers from crosses, but they haven't had enough of the ball to regularly cause any issues. The two central midfielders, Stanciu and Razvan Marin, haven't touched the ball nearly enough.

Belgium hold the ball for a bit and drag the time down, with the final whistle imminent.

BRILLIANT SAVE! De Bruyne picks it up inside Romania's half and floods forward, drifting all the way to the box. He draws in the defence and slides it right for Lukebakio, who decides to take a touch back inside to his left foot. He curls it around a defender but Nita can see it all the way, leaping to his right and pushing it around the post for a corner!

BIG CHANCE! Romania work it clear from their own end with a hopeful ball long for Dragus. He holds it up before a little flick for the run of Mihaila sends him through! He gets to the box on his own, but then shifts it to his left foot and fires his shot over the bar! Onana recovered quickly there and put on a touch of pressure, perhaps just enough to put him off?

MASSIVE CHANCE! Romania put it through the line and Man wins the race to the ball in front of goal! His shot is blocked by the advancing Casteels though, and Belgium clear it! Great keeping.

CHANCE! Belgium's corner flies through the box and out the other side, before the Tricolours move forward. There's a long ball from Stanciu in behind and Dragus is only inches from it in front of Casteels! Good awareness from the keeper there.

Counter attack from Romania! Bancu slides it long up the left side and Tielemans, covering at the back, slips short of the ball and allows Mihaila away up the left. He races towards the box, has a shot blocked and then seems to slip and fall as he jinks to his right foot on the edge of the box. Dragus fights for the rebound but concedes a free kick. Replays showing that Lukebakio has accidentally trod on Mihaila's hand on the ground, and he needs the physio.

First swap of the night and it's Lukebakio, who has owned that right wing, making way for Trossard.

SHOT! Big switch from left to right and Man gets another chance to dart inside and fizz a left foot shot at goal. It's hit superbly, but straight into the guts of Casteels.

Romania lose it near halfway and De Bruyne can spin on the ball and shift forward. He has numbers left but his pass is wayward for once, allowing Ratiu to intercept.

Plenty of whistle in this game so far, with lots of late clumsy collisions. This time it's Tielemans, who barrels through a Romanian and gives them a free kick thirty yards out to the right.

BIG SAVE! Romania lay the corner short, then work it across the park through Bancu out to the left. It's curled in towards the back post where Dragusin get up highest to power a header at goal, but Casteels tips it over the bar acrobatically!

Dragusin has a pop from range, and it takes a nick off a defender for a corner. It's swung into the mix but Belgium confidently clear it out.

Romania getting more and more of the ball now and there's a nice patient buildup from them, albeit not getting anywhere. Razvan Marin decides he's had enough and slams a shot from range, but it's well wide.

Romania win a throw up the right side and look quickly up the line. Theate reads it well but then makes a real hash of the clearance, slicing it behind for a corner. 

Doku needs a minute, with what looks to be some ankle issue. A bit of ice spray and he's not off for long.

UNDERWAY! We're off and running and the teams have the benefit of both being in the favoured colours; Belgium in red and Romania in yellow.

CHANCE! Romania lose it trying to switch it left, and Castagne shifts it up the line. Inside him is Lukebakio, who slides De Bruyne into the box first time! The Belgian captain looks to hook a right foot shot at goal, but doesn't get the connection and it dribbles to Nita.

Sorescu gets a couple of minutes now, in place of Ratiu, who has been solid for the Romanians.

CHANCE! Wonderful corner right into the mix in the middle, and it's Burca first to the ball. His header has the power behind it but it flies over the bar.

Into the team news now and it's no surprise to see a bit of rotation from the Belgians after their loss. Vertonghen returns to the backline in the centre, while outside him on the left Theate comes in for Carrasco. Youri Tielemans earns his start in the heart of midfield alongside Onana, while Lukebakio takes over from Trossard and starts on the left of the front three.

Belgium holding the ball nicely now, building up patiently and shifting it slowly from right to left. Doku tries to find De Bruyne inside but fails, only for Onana to win it back quickly.

Doku and Ratiu again battle down in the corner and this time it's a goal kick after some smart shielding from the Romanian right back. Belgium win it back from the goal kick though and once again it's a patience game.

Swift from Belgium has the race down the right with Lukebakio, before it's slid inside near halfway. De Bruyne expertly feeds Doku up the left, and he's one on one with Ratiu. The defender shows up to the battle though, and puts it behind for a corner with a good tackle.

Dragus flies through Vertonghen late after the centre back pumps it clear, and the ref once again keeps his cards in his pocket. Dragus probably lucky there.

Romania pushing for a quick response and there's a footrace up the right. A low cross gets sent into the middle, and Belgium's clearance ricochets back off Theate and out for the first corner of the game.

SAVE! Nita has a chip cut out on the left and Lukaku is quickly on the ball. He slips it to De Bruyne running across the top of the box, but this time his shot is too close to Nita, who can fall on it and hold.

It's been Belgium's half of football and a strong response from a side after their shock loss in the first game. They got off to a flyer, with Tielemans firing home after just a couple of minutes, and since then they've run the show. Doku, Lukebakio and De Bruyne are finding space and running at players all over the place, causing real chaos in particular out wide. Lukaku saw the ball in the box a couple of times but the Belgians will want to be hitting him in front of goal more often.

Hagi makes a good run through the middle, but slips before he can reach the backline. Romania win it back and send a cross deep to the backpost from the left, but Hagi is flagged offside. 

Lukaku again with a loping run forward and he's got De Bruyne through the centre. He holds it for too long though, and by the time the pass comes, the defence is back and De Bruyne is offside.

SHOT! De Bruyne again spreads it out to Doku, who sprints to the box. He jinks right, then left before smashing his shot high up into the side netting.

The ref calls for only a minute of injury time and it passes by without event, so it's into the sheds we go with only Tielemans goal separating the sides.

Theate signals that he needs to come off, and Belgium oblige by sending on Debast in his stead. He heads to the right, with Castagne coming to the left. 

SAVE! Romania have a much better period and force a good header clear from Vertonghen. Man collects the ball out right and flies infield, before slipping a low shot towards the near post. It's far too tame to really trouble Casteels though.

Belgium's corner is a little overhit and comes to nothing,  before Onana gives away a curious free kick, for standing on the toes of Marius Marin as he jinked past him.

LUKAKU SLIDES BELGIUM TWO CLEAR! BUT HE'S OFFSIDE! De Bruyne puts a fantastic ball through the centre and Lukaku is in on goal! He puts it on his left and slides it past Nita with ease, but VAR checks and he's quickly ruled offside by a couple of millimetres!

Another corner for Belgium and this time it's swung in but Nita is confident enough to come and punch.

DE BRUYNE TOES IT HOME! Casteels pumps the free kick long and it's misjudged at the back! De Bruyne has made the run in behind for a flick on, races into the box and gets his foot to it before Nita can get out to it!

Burca wins the ball in his own box and stabs it wide for Mihaila, who loses it over the sideline. Romania struggling to get on the ball.

Belgium send Doku up the left and this time Ratiu is out of position. Dragusin has to slide across but Doku gets to the byline to smash a cross into the six yard box. Luckily for the Tricolours, Lukaku is a yard too slow reaching it.

BLOCK! Doku gets back to defend and then somehow wriggles out of a crowd to squeeze it to Tielemans. He races upfield, finding Lukebakio on his right and once again the winger cuts to his left foot to shoot. Bancu reads it well though and gets a toe in the way, sending it well over the bar.

Vertonghen does well to stop Ratiu get through on goal, before Dragus overhead kick fails to connect. Belgium look to break upfield but Bancu chops down De Bruyne near halfway and sees yellow.

From the start, Belgium's attacking prowess was on full show. Doku, Lukaku, De Bruyne, Lukebakio and Tielemans all looked in sync and the two wingers in particular caused all sorts of chaos. The Romanian defenders weren't going down without a fight though, with Ratiu and Dragusin having solid outings themselves. 

Another corner swung in first time, and it's headed away at the near post. Perhaps they should return to going short.

So Group E is now anyone's game. With Ukraine beating Slovakia yesterday, all four teams now have three points. Belgium face Ukraine on matchday 3, while Romania against Slovakia will be a thrilling game. 

SHOT! De Bruyne cuts in from the left and looks to curl a shot into the far post, but doesn't quite get enough whip on the ball and it flies wide. 

Man gets forward into the box and hits another left footed shot, but it's blocked away and Belgium can break! Marius Marin decides to stop it though, rugby-tackling De Bruyne to the turf. Yellow.

Marius Marin clatters through the back of Lukebakio but wins no free kick somehow, and the Belgian fans are letting the ref know all about it. Nita puts it out for some treatment but he'll be fine.

This game is starting to get very end to end now, so it's rare to see a quiet minute or two on the park.

Marius Marin, on the yellow card, and Mihaila, who has faded in the second half, are both replaced now. Olaru and Hagi get their turn.

Stick around here on Tribe, the second half isn't far off.

Castagne is sitting high up the right now, and he floats a cross towards the back stick. Nita comes and flaps at it badly, but it hits Ratiu and bounces off.

HUGE CHANCE! Belgium fizz another ball into the feet of Lukaku and this time he spins Burca with such ease. He touches it to his right and lets fly from just ten yards, but Dragusin makes a last ditch lunge to block it behind!

SHOT! De Bruyne gets a shot away from outside the area on the left, but this time it's very high and wide.

Hello everyone and welcome to Tribe's live coverage of this Euro 2024 group stage match between Belgium and Romania. I'm Jonny Lawrence and it's going to be my pleasure to bring you all the best bits from here in Cologne.

Belgium are in control of this game comfortably. Romania cannot get a touch on it and the men in red are simply knocking it around at will at times.

Hagi wins a corner, which is sent deep to the back stick. Dragusin somehow hooks it back in but Belgium clear it easily.

Both sides are out on the park now and there is a raucous gathering of yellow smattered over the Romanian half of the crowd. The anthem is deafening and the players look very up for this. Belgium's response is heartening also, if not a little less passionate. Still, conditions look stunning, the atmosphere is electric and the pitch looks immaculate. All set for a exciting game!

SHOT! Short corner routine for Belgium and it's drilled low towards the near post for the run of Vertonghen. He swings a left peg at it first time but blasts it into the stands behind the goal.
