The result sees France join The Netherlands at the top of Group D, with those two nations doing battle in just four days, in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash. Meanwhile, Austria must dust themselves off quickly, as they prepare to face Poland next up looking to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The full time whistle goes in Dusseldorf and France earn themselves a narrow one goal win, to get their Euro campaign off the a perfect start! They were pushed all the way by Austria, who were industrious in their efforts throughout. Ultimately, it was a moment of good fortune for France that settled the game, with Maximilian Wober accidentally diverting Kylian Mbappe's cross into his own goal with a header. Austria's best chance of the night fell to Christoph Baumgartner, but Mike Maignan made a great save at close range to keep Baumgartner at bay. Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud both wasted glorious chances for Les Bleus and Mbappe was forced off the field with a bloody nose towards the end of the game. Austria pushed until the final minute, but they could not break down a stubborn French defence.

GIROUD BLOWS A CHANCE TO SETTLE THE GAME! The ball is cut back from the byline to the right of Austria's goal. Giroud looks to have a simple finish from six yards out, but somehow fails to make proper contact with the ball! It may have taken a slight deflection off Kevin Danso on its way through in Giroud's defence, but Austria survive for now.
90+6'
Marcel Sabitzer's attempted cross from the left deflects off Jules Kounde at close range and bounces kindly for goalkeeper Mike Maignan to make an easy catch. The Austrian faithful appeal for handball against Kounde, but the referee waves away any protests.
90+5'
A free kick from France is launched towards the back post by Jules Kounde. Olivier Giroud nods the ball back inside, but Austria scramble the ball clear of their penalty area.
