Ultimately, it was a moment of good fortune for France that settled the game, with Maximilian Wober accidentally diverting Kylian Mbappe's cross into his own goal with a header. Austria's best chance of the night fell to Christoph Baumgartner, but Mike Maignan made a great save at close range to keep Baumgartner at bay. Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud both wasted glorious chances for Les Bleus and Mbappe was forced off the field with a bloody nose towards the end of the game. Austria pushed until the final minute, but they could not break down a stubborn French defence.
