France have scured back-to-back victories over Belgium and taken a big step forward towards the Nations League quarter-finals. Make sure you join us again on Tribe tomorrow for more Nations League coverage, with Portugal's trip to Scotland being the main event. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from the King Baudoin Stadium in Brussels this evening. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Every match is a must win for Belgium now if they are to have any hope of progressing through to the quarter-finals. It doesn't get any easier though, with Italy the next to make the trip to Brussels when they resume Nations League action next month, followed by a trip to neutral ground in Budapest for a clash with Israel. France will be feeling a lot better about themselves in contrast, and they welcome Israel to Paris next, before closing out the group phase with a trip to Milan.
A damaging defeat for Belgium, who's winless run against France in competitive action dating back to 1981 stretches on. They started strong, and played some impressive football through the opening half hour, pressing high and bringing plenty of intensity through the middle of the park. Space opened up down the flanks for Doku, and Openda was target man in the middle, creating a couple of decent opportunities. The penalty miss from Tielemans was a big shock to their confidence though, and despite rallying before the break, when they fell behind again, they struggled to piece it altogether, even with a man advantage. The performance again underlines the fragile state of this Belgian side, and missing a number of key stars through off-field dramas with the coach, they really appear to be struggling to keep it together. With just four points from their first four Nations League games, and a five point gap between them and the top two, a relegation play-off down to League B now looms large for the Red Devils.
It's a big result for France, particuarly after riding a late storm with just ten men on the field. Les Bleues were slow to start tonight, and were lucky not to be behind on the scoreboard after the first half hour. They took advantage of Belgium's missed opportunities though, and forged ahead ten minutes before the break, before scoring the decisive second just after the hour mark. Didier Deschamps brought the physicality and looked to slow Belgium's pace in the middle of the park with a number of hard challenges. It almost worked against them though, losing a man and picking up six yellow cards across the course of the match. Randal Kolo Muani was the hero though, and the striker rose to the occasion with a match-winning double, proving a consistent threat as the target man up top. France make it three wins over their neighbouring rivals in 2024 as a result, and bounce five points ahead of Belgium in second place in the group.
Fulltime in Brussels and France have done the double over Belgium in the Nations League. It was a dramatic affair from start to finish, with a variety of twists and turns. Tielemans missed the chance to put the hosts in front from the penalty spot early on, and Belgium were made to pay as Randal Kolo Muani opened the scoring for France with a penalty kick of his own. The Red Devils rallied to find a response through Luis Openda moments before the break, but Kolo Muani found the back of the back of the net on the hour mark to edge Les Blues back ahead. One last dramatic turn of events was left for the final fiifteen minutes as Aurelin Tchouameni was dismissed for a second yellow card, but Belgium couldn't take advantage for a second response. France push further away alongside Italy at the top of the group as such, and Belgium are now staring down the barrel of a relegation play-off.

Doku latches onto a long searching pass down the left wing, before picking out the run of De Cuyper down the left-hand side of the box. The latter is quick to power a low cross into the near post, but it doesn't quite fall for Openda, and France hurriedly clear. That could be that in terms of chances for Belgium.

It's been a fantastic evening for Randal Kolo Muani with the two goals, and he makes way for Marcus Thuram as France try to wind more time off the clock.

SAVE! The ball comes wide for Doku on the left again, and he settles for a corner off Konate this time. It's played short for Trossard down the left-hand side of the box, who turns and takes aim at goal on the angle. It's straight into the welcoming arms of Maignan though, and the keeper holds with both hands on for a big save.
