Burnley find a way to get it done in the second half after being on the back foot for large parts. The injection of Edwards proved a master stroke as he managed to put a ball into the back of the net at close range in what would be the winner. The likes of Sarmiento and Shelvey were excellent through the middle while Hladky was good in front of goal. They head home to take on Hull City midweek in the Championship.

Southampton looked the better side for large portions of the match but they struggled to get anything going in front of goal. There were a couple of chances early but the Burnley defence was on show as they shut down wave after wave of attack. Dibling and Sulemana tried to work their magic along the edges but failed to link with anyone in the middle. They will turn their attention back to the Premier League with Bournemouth making the visit next weekend.

The Clarets cash in as the Saints stutter with Burnley moving through to the next round of the FA Cup away from home. A cracking goal from the Clarets was the difference with Mejbri teeing up Edwards in front of goal in the second half to score the winner!

The Saints win an attacking throw down the left edge. Manning launches a throw into the box. Nodded on but Barnes is there and Mejbri puts the laces through it sending it up near halfway. Burnley send it back towards the penalty area but it is over the top of everyone and into the hands of Hladky. He sends it back up the minute and that will do it!

The Saints walk it back over halfway as the boos ring out from the home crowd wanting a bit more from their side. Lobbed over the top by Welington but Bauress covers it and hacks it back into the Southampton half.

Three minutes of added time for Southampton to find a goal to take us an extra half an hour! Archer comes down the left for the Saints and bends a ball towards the back post! Well handled by Hladky as he takes it above his head. Slows the play down before sending it down the middle.

Burnley take their time on the free kick inside their own half. They keep it short around the back as they come away to the right. Breaking into the middle is Edwards but the Saints quickly win the turn over. Punched over the top looking for the run of Archer but Hladky picks it up near the byline.
