Thank you so much for staying with us for that absolute marathon coverage of Exeter City vs Nottingham Forest. It's only a few more weeks before we do it all again for the next round...I'll see you there.
Just a quick note to let you know that despite that awful collision, Awoniyi is conscious and in the team's dressing room, so didn't have to go to hospital. Glad he's alright.
Then came the penalty shoot-out. Magennis opened successfully for Exeter, before Wood levelled. Cole then had his low shot saved by Selz, with Gibbs-White putting forest ahead. MacDonald hit the woodwork for Exeter City, with Anderson putting the Premier League side further ahead with a 3rd successful conversion. Despite Yogane scoring the 2nd for the Grecians, Williams made it 4 from 4 for Forest, who now go through to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup.
After significant Forest pressure, Exeter City almost scored in the last few minutes of normal time, before Turns was sent a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Gibbs-White, and Exeter were down to 10 men. After 10 minutes of stoppage time was announced, we had a 12 minute delay after Awoniyi collided with Whitworth, challenging for a ball in the air, and needed significant attention. Once play restarted, Exeter City managed to make it through the remainder of stoppage time, before Silva struck the post in the 22nd minute of added time. They went into extra-time 2-2, and the finished that way, despite yet more heavy Forest pressure.
Remember the start of the match? It was a while ago, so allow me to remind you. Magennis opened the scoring in the 5th minute from just a few yards out, after a goalkeeping error by Miguel. Sangare set up Sosa to equalise in the 15th minute, before playing a pass into Awoniyi in the 37th minute, who turned and scored from the edge of the box. At the start of the 2nd half, Exeter City managed to equalise after Magennis' shot after a corner deflected off of a couple of Forest players, before nestling into the back of the net. Miguel then had to go off injured, with Selz replacing him after 59 minutes...
What an incredible effort from the League One club! They've taken a team challenging for a Champions League place all the way to penalties, despite being down to 10 men for 40+ minutes.
Nottingham Forest are through to the Fifth Round!
Neco Williams sends the last penalty into the top left corner, with Whitworth diving the wrong way.
