Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Jarrod Bowen’s injury-time penalty earned West Ham United a memorable victory over Manchester United at the London Stadium this afternoon; I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - West Ham are at the City Ground next, facing in-form Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. Manchester United host Leicester City in the League Cup on Wednesday night before welcoming Chelsea to Old Trafford in next Sunday’s late afternoon league match.
Manchester United, having played well early on, will rue not converting the first-half opportunities they had. Garnacho faded from the game after such a bright start whilst both Rashford and Diallo failed to make any sort of impact on the other flank. They dozed off criminally for West Ham's opener and although controversial, de Ligt was unwise to tussle with Ings like that in the penalty area. Manager, Erik Ten Hag, will once again find himself under renewed scrutiny.
A huge three points, then, for West Ham. They were second-best in the first half but reacted with a terrific second-half display. Summerville was electric on the left wing after coming on, earning his goal. Bowen, meanwhile, led the way with his energetic pressing and calmness under pressure, personified by his clinically taken penalty to clinch three invaluable points.
WEST HAM TAKE THE POINTS - An injury-time penalty, converted by captain, Bowen, earns West Ham United all three points after a thrilling encounter with Manchester United at the London Stadium! With Manchester United creating the better chances before the break, they hit the crossbar twice, West Ham looked there for the taking. Yet, Julen Lopetegui made decisive substitutions and was rewarded when Ings teed up Summerville for the opener. The visitors rallied to level through Casemiro's close-range header. Yet, when de Ligt fouled Ings inside the box, VAR sent referee, David Coote, to the pitchside screen. A spot-kick was given, Bowen converted and West Ham saw out a memorable win for their second successive home league victory!
90+14'
Diallo, pressed tenaciously by Summerville, finds de Ligt inside the centre circle. he goes left to Fernandes who overhits his cross straight out of play for a West Ham goal-kick.
90+12'
CHANCE - Lindelof, advancing down the right, finds Dalot ahead of him. His layoff to Diallo sees the latter cut the ball back to Fernandes, centrally. Fernandes shoots from range and drags his low strike only an inch or two wide of the right-hand post!
90+11'
Fernandes, outside the penalty area, curs inside to try and cross. Soucek shuts him down as the ball's sent left to Garnacho. He gets away from Wan-Bissaka but his cross is too near Fabianski, who catches to relieve the pressure for West Ham.
90+9'
SAVE - Onana keeps Manchester United in it! Summerville glides up to the halfway line and keeps on going, with no Manchester United man able to get a foot in. Summerville plays in the overlapping Emerson, down the left of the box. He has Ings in support but opts to go himself, shooting powerfully at goal from twelve yards. Onana does well to parry the shot and boot the ball up-field.
