Half time in Manchester and what an exciting first half it's been. Szmodics gave Ipswich a surprise lead 7 minutes in but their joy was short lived. Davis gave away a penalty which Haaland easily converted. Muric then criminally gave away possession allowing De Bruyne to put it into an empty net and Haaland added a third just a couple of minutes later. McKenna may feel that all three of the goals conceded were preventable but life in the Premier League comes at you fast. 

Some cheers around the ground as Gundogan starts to warm up. The home faithful would absolutely love it if he gets on. 

Davis dispossesses Savinho down the right hand side, his first win in a duel so far in this game. Gives to Delap who tries to hold up play at midfield but Gvardiol slides in to take possession away. 

NON STOP GOALS AT THE ETIHAD! De Bruyne picks it up on the left flank and spots the run of Haaland in behind. Inch perfect lofted pass played to the left hand side of the goal and Haaland times his one perfectly. Takes a touch to take the keeper out of the equation and finishes well before the covering defenders can get back. This could get ugly quickly. 

Doku gets the better of Johnson after Savinho's lofted diagonal ball was intercepted. The covering defenders get there to close down the space though and Doku is forced to recycle. 

HOWLER FROM MURIC! Ipswich with major problems at the back as they try to play it out under the heavy press. Savinho chases down from the front and dispossesses the keeper just at the edge of the box. The ball rolls straight into the path of Kevin De Bruyne who puts it into an empty net with his left instep. Calamity for Ipswich after a dream start.

Corner played short and city work it flank to flank around the edge of the box. Falls to De Bruyne outside the box and he pulls the trigger once again. This time the left footed strike goes wide of the mark and Ipswich can breathe momentarily. 

Given away by Woolfenden and City have it on halfway. De Bruyne found by a ball in behind and he knocks it back to Doku on the left flank. Played inside to Kovacic who then spreads it all the way to the right to Bernardo. He passes back inside where a ball is played into the box. Haaland the intended target but it goes over his head and behind for a goal kick. 

WHAT A SAVE! Haaland denied a hat trick by a fantastic diving save from Muric. The initial corner is dealt with at the near post but City regather and put another ball into the box. Haaland finds a pocket of space between defenders in the 6 yard box and powers a header on target. Sharp reflex save from Muric as he touches it over the bar for a corner. 

Good hold up play from Delap down the right hand side and he plays a through ball to find the overlapping run of Johnson. Crossed into the box and Davis is arriving at the back post. Dias is there ahead of him though and heads away. 

Bit of a lull in the last couple of minutes with neither side threatening in any sort of meaningful way. City with the majority of possession, they've gone into snooze mode a bit. 

HAT TRICK HERO HAALAND! What a strike as well! Collects 20-25 yards out, turns sublimely and powers it into the bottom right corner. Ipswich needed to do better to clear out of their final third and they've paid the price. Such a clean strike of the ball, well out of reach of the diving Muric. His 10th hat trick in a Man City shirt. 

Hello and welcome to Tribe for live coverage from the Etihad Stadium. I'm Elliott Johns and I'll be bringing you all the action from this one as Man City host Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town.

Szmodics shown yellow after a cynical trip on Rico Lewis inside the City half. Poor challenge that. 

Good buildup play from the away side and it's worked out to Davis on the left. Tries to swing a cross in from deep but it's overhit. We'll restart with a City goal kick. 

Another corner for City with Woolfenden clearing it behind. De Bruyne takes but doesn't beat the first man. City regather though and the numbers have stayed forward in the box. 

Cross played in from the right by Akanji and he finds Haaland in the middle of the box. Audacious effort with the back of his head but it only goes just wide. The keeper would have had it covered I suspect but still, another threat. 

NO MISTAKE FROM THE SPOT! Haaland steps up and calmly slots it into the bottom left corner. Muric goes the other way and City are level. 

Slick passing in midfield from City as they assess the options in front of them. 

City don't tend to lose at this ground. They've lost just one of their last 44 home games. That came against Brentford all the way back in 2022. Ipswich fans may argue that history is in their favour though. The last time these two sides played against each other was back in 2000/01 when they were both freshly promoted. Ipswich won both of those games but how fortunes have changed since then. 

SHOT! Low driven delivery from De Bruyne and it finds Silva unmarked just inside the box. Shoots first time but the ball doesn't find its way through the tangle of bodies in front of him. 

It's been pretty much non stop attack from City since going a goal down with Ipswich only having a couple of promising spells of possession. They've had to defend for long periods and look like they could easily concede a couple more. Stay tuned for the second half. 

Ipswich just need to try and settle things down but they're still under the pump here. Tuanzebe gives away a corner and City take it quickly, looking to catch the Tractor Boys napping. Greaves is alert to the danger though and hooks it away, giving them momentary breathing space. 

CHANCE! De Bruyne with a great chance in the Ipswich box from a tight angle but he gets the shot all wrong and it skews away for a goal kick. Great buildup initially with Haaland coming very close as well. 

Man City are inevitably strong favourites for this game. They will be aware of the threat the Ipswich pose though. They have been one of the most impressive clubs in the Football League across the last 18 months and will be hoping for a major upset in their first Premier League away fixture this season. It'll be a stern test for them though, to put it lightly. They showed promise in the opening 45 minutes of the Liverpool game but just dropped off slightly in the second half. 

Savinho runs at Davis but this time it's the Ipswich defender who wins the duel. Stays goal side and shows good strength to hold off Savinho as the ball trickles over the byline. 

De Bruyne goes for power with the free kick but hits it straight into the wall. Anticlimactic effort really. 

PENALTY SHOUT! Ipswich with a rare attacking opportunity as Leif Davis gallops down the left hand side. Cuts back inside onto his right and dribbles into the box. A clumsy challenge from Savinho in front of him and Davis goes to ground. Waved away by the referee and VAR confirms the decision. Ipswich may feel a bit aggrieved there, I thought they had a case. 

That'll be Haaland's last act of the afternoon as young James McAtee comes on to replace him. De Bruyne also withdrawn with Matheus Nunes taking his place. 

That will be that for Kovacic today. No point taking a risk and John Stones comes in to replace him. 

Ben Johnson carries forward with intent down the right hand side but a fantastic Kovacic tackle brings that spell of play to an abrupt end. He's back to his feet and launches it in behind for Doku to chase but Muric wins the race to the ball. Positive start from both sides here. 

Ipswich could've let their heads drop in that second half but they performed admirably and in the end were beaten by a much better team. That's to be expected really but they will know that games against top 6 sides won't decide their season. The schedule hasn't been kind to them to start the campaign but in terms of performance, there's plenty to work with for Kieran McKenna's men. 

Free kick for City 15 yards out of the box and close to the left flank. Savinho whips it in but doesn't find the intended target. Ipswich regather and pass it around the defence. 

Slick passing in midfield from City as they assess the options in front of them. Spread to Savinho who glides past Davis as he cuts back onto his left. Morsy takes him down cynically JUST outside the box and the referee awards the free kick. Yellow for the Ipswich skipper. 

City on the attack again and Lewis tries a shot from right of the goal. Morsy gets in the way though and it ricochets off him behind for a corner. 

CHANCE! Gvardiol gives to Doku on the left and continues his run. Doku finds Gvardiol unmarked on the underlapping run. Fires a cutback across the face of goal and Haaland is there. Closely marked with the keeper also quick off his line. He can't quite manage to poke it home under heavy pressure before Muric dives on the ball. Haaland insisting that he was being impeded but the referee is having none of it. 

Former City player Delap makes way to a nice ovation with Iraqi international Ali Al-Hamadi coming on. He was playing in league two just 8 months ago and here he is now in the top flight. 

Nicely done from Delap as he dribbles forward. Support arrives and it bounces around at the edge of the box with the Ipswich players lining up to shoot. Neither Harness nor Delap can get the shot away though and City clear it away from danger. 

OFF THE BAR... AGAIN! This time it's an outside the box effort from De Bruyne. No one closes him down and he unleashes a long range effort. Muric rooted to the spot as the ball crashes into the woodwork. Put behind for a corner. The gulf in quality between the two sides really is palpable here. 

Changes for McKenna and Ipswich with Hutchinson coming off for Chaplin. Edmundson also on with former United player Axel Tuanzebe coming off. 

Delap with an inadvertent knee into the glute of Kovacic and the midfielder is really feeling that one. We pause as the physios see to him. 

Hutchinson begins to threaten down the Ipswich right flank but the support is poor and he quickly runs out of options. Dispossessed as he turns and City look to build from the back once more. 

De Bruyne tries to find the run in behind from Doku after he lost Johnson. Lapse in concentration from the Ipswich right back but Doku's touch lets him down. Trickles over the byline for a goal kick. 

Good interplay high up the pitch from Lewis and Bernardo. Ipswich are scrambling and they do just enough to get it behind for a corner. 

CHANCE! Doku released down the left hand side and he gets to it at the byline. Pulls it back to Haaland at the near post but his effort goes high and wide. Tough chance for the Norwegian but he's visibly eager. He's hunting down his hat trick. 

Savinho runs at Davis and plays a lovely one two with Lewis to get behind the left back. Another heavy touch though and it trickles safely into Muric's gloves. 

Ipswich are in damage control mode here. Reluctant to leave the low block and it's been what feels like an age since they've had a spell of meaningful possession. Delap is doing his best to get on the end of the clearances but City are just too well organised. 

Calm in possession from City as they look for a way to break down this Ipswich low block. Savinho found with a chipped pass down the right hand side but his first touch is a little heavy and Greaves is able to usher it over the byline for a goal kick. 

Pass played into Lewis in the box and Greaves challenges him for the ball. Good looking turn from the City player but he goes to ground after feeling the slightest of touches from the defender. Not enough for a penalty.

City straight back on the attack and they're appealing for a penalty down the other end. Savinho taken down just inside the box but the onfield decision is no penalty. VAR is having a look though and has asked the referee to go to the monitor. City could hit back straight away here. 

De Bruyne with a nice ball to find the run towards the byline of Bernardo Silva. Wins a corner after his cutback is deflected behind. 

City applying pressure high up the pitch but Hutchinson does well to disrupt. That gives Ipswich time to get the right players in the right position and settle into their defensive structure. Another foul by Delap though and the City players are pointing out the fact that that is his third or fourth foul so far in the second half. No booking just yet though. 

Momentary break in play as Omari Hutchinson is receiving some treatment at the edge of his own 18 yard box. 

TEAM NEWS MANCHESTER CITY: After a comfortable 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend of the season, Pep Guardiola has seen no reason to alter the starting eleven. No Phil Foden in the matchday squad due to reported illness. Ilkay Gundogan is named on the bench having been resigned on a free transfer.

5 additional minutes. Not surprising given the long wait for the penalty to be awarded as well as the four first half goals! Can City strike again before the oranges? 

We're off and running at a sun soaked Etihad Stadium. Rolled all the way back to Muric who hoofs it forward. Patient build up from City in response as they settle into possession. 

McKenna makes a double change of his own with Taylor and Harness coming on. Goalscorer Szmodics and Massimo Luongo the two men to make way. 

SAMMIE SZMODICS GETS THE OPENER! IPSWICH ARE IN DREAMLAND! Morsy wins the ball back just inside his own box and gives to Hutchinson. Carries it forward from inside his own half and gives outside to the overlapping Johnson. He puts Szmodics in behind and the new signing is one on one with Ederson. Poorly struck shot but it squeezes through the legs of Ederson and trickles into the back of the net. 

A couple of looks at the monitor and the referee points to the spot. It's Leif Davis who just came across and took down Savinho just inside the box. Some theatrics from the new City signing but that's definitely the right call. 

Szmodics races onto the ball just on the City side of halfway. Dias arrives slightly late to the challenge and takes the Ipswich attacker down. The ref reaches for his pocket and brandishes yellow. 

Relentless from City. They're camped deep in Ipswich's half and are peppering the box with crosses. De Bruyne finds Haaland at the back post but the cutback from the prolific striker is cleared away inside the 6 yard box. 

Lewis with a good turn and passes inside to Nunes. Nothing opening up in front of him though and it's recycled back to the defenders. 

Good on the half turn from Delap as Szmodics runs alongside him. He's marked well though so Delap tries to feed in the overlapping Davis. Not enough on the pass though as Lewis steps in to intercept. 

Strong challenge from Delap on Akanji. He's had a couple of fouls so far in the second half and is perhaps a bit lucky not to go into the book. 

Al-Hamadi sees yellow for a late challenge on Jack Grealish. Bit needless really. 

Doku knocks it past Tuanzebe and chases it towards the byline. Good recovery from Woolfenden though and he pokes it behind for a City corner. 

TEAM NEWS IPSWICH TOWN: Kieran McKenna has made three alterations to the side that lost to Liverpool last time out. Sammie Szmodics, Arijanet Muric and Ben Johnson all make their competitive debuts for the club. Szmodics was the Championship top scorer for Blackburn last season and expectations are high for the Irish attacker. Another Irish qualified player in Liam Delap leads the line for the Tractor Boys, facing up against his former teammates. 

The final whistle goes and City have made it two from two following an emphatic victory today. It was an ideal start for the away side when Szmodics gave them an early lead but a barrage of goals in quick succession quickly put the game beyond any real doubt. It stayed 3-1 until the 88th minute when a wonderful outside the box strike from Erling Haaland secured his hat trick. 

Back underway at the Etihad. Pristine conditions still with the sun beating down. No changes for either side just yet. 

Double change for City and it's popular amongst the fans. Gundogan replaces Doku while Grealish comes on for his first Premier League appearance this season. Savinho the other man to make way. 

OFF THE BAR! City unlock the Ipswich defence with a lovely bit of play down the left. Doku gets to the byline and cuts it back across the face of goal. Haaland is the target but he can't get on the end of it. Lewis has arrived late behind him though and he's perfectly poised to unleash an effort. The goalkeeper is scrambling back across as Lewis pulls back to shoot. Powerful effort but it cannons into the cross bar and Ipswich clear. He feels he should have scored. 

De Bruyne plays it to Grealish and continues his run into the box. Grealish tries to find the Belgian on the return pass. Not to be though as Muric steps out to gather.

Grealish booked for simulation after going down in a duel with Morsy inside the box. 

As you were so far in the second half for Man City. Lots of time on the ball as they patiently stalk the Ipswich box. Perhaps not as slick as the first half though with a couple of miscued passes giving possession away needlessly.
