That wraps things up from this one, but thanks for joining us. This is Ryan NIxon (@NewYorkNixon) signing off.
As for Liverpool, it's a bright outing under Arne Slot, and the second half performance in particular will have pleased the new manager. The performance was certainly more of a possession based strategy than what we might have been accustomed to under Jurgen Klopp, but it was still energetic, bright, and with plenty of threat on the break.
There was enough there from Ipswich to suggest they can stay up this season, with promising defensive performances from Jacob Greaves, Luke Woolfenden and Leif Davis, while Wes Burns and Omari Hutchinson provided impetus going forward. They'll learn from this outing, and with easier opponents on the horizon, will look forward to trying to pick up some points.
Liverpool in the second half were outstanding, picking Ipswich apart with some slick passing and movement, with Mo Salah growing into the contest, and linking nicely down the right flank with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai. The goals always looked like they would come, and Salah was involved in both as he laid one on for Diogo Jota, before continuing his outrageous opening day goalscoring streak by adding a second shortly after. Liverpool could probably have had two or three more on another day as they game opened right up, but they'll be satisfied with the two goal win.
So a strong second half from Liverpool gets the job done, after Ipswich had given a good account of themselves in the first 45 minutes. The newcomers were solid in the first half, growing into the game, and creating the better chances as they were able to absorb Liverpool's pressure, and then promise plenty going forward. They never really threatened to score outside of a headed effort from Jacob Greaves, and that lack of a goal proved costly in the second half.
90+8'
Gakpo heads the corner half clear, and in the follow up there's half a chance for Greaves. His effort is blocked though.
90+7'
A late corner for Ipswich, as Hutchinson drives forward before playing it off Tsimikas.
90+5'
The crowd belatedly get their wish, as Gakpo is into the book for a foul on Hutchinson.
