Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Manchester City made the ideal start to their Premier League campaign by defeating an energetic Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. I’ve been Rory Morrow and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live match here on Tribe!
Manchester City's quest for five-in-a-row is off to the perfect start, then. Haaland demonstrated just why he's a top-class striker with his clinical finish, having not been involved much at all before that goal. With Chelsea pressing them, and creating chances, City showed their resilience with Dias and Akanji imperious at the back. Kovacic's strike, and tenacity in winning the ball back in the buildup, will also be a positive for The Champions who, let's remember, still have the formidable presence of European winner, Rodri, to return to midfield. City’s next outing is at home to newly promoted, Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium next Saturday afternoon.
Positives for new Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, to take from today's match. Chelsea stretched City throughout with key, last-gasp blocks required to prevent Fernandez and Palmer both possibly scoring in the first half. With a few new faces, plus four debutants off the bench, The Blues played quite well with Palmer and Gusto both looking bright. In the end, though, they lacked the clinical touch that Manchester City possessed in both boxes. Chelsea tired towards the end but will look forwards to a busy schedule now as they commence their Europa Conference League campaign here on Thursday night against Swiss club, Servette Geneva in a first leg qualifying round. They’re back in league action in a week’s time, facing Wolves at Molinuex.
HAALAND AND KOVACIC STRIKES EARN CITY THE WIN - Manchester City start their bid for five successive Premier League titles with a win at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, under the new management of Enzo Maresca, went close through Fofana before a lovely bit of Silva dribbling worked room for Haaland to fire City ahead. Chelsea's reply was strong as Palmer, Nkunku and Fernandez all exerted the visiting defence to the maximum. After the break, Chelsea had more of the ball but only saw Ederson deny Jackson from a few yards, the striker having had a goal chalked out for offside in the first half. Six minutes from time and Manchester City got the second goal they craved, Kovacic pouncing on a tired clearance before rifling a fine finish into the top-left-corner against his former club.

Palmer zips a lovely, fast pass, packed with pace, out right, into Gusto's stride. The right-back's ball in is cleared by Dias but falls to Fernandez, outside the box. His drilled attempt is straight at Ederson, though.
90+3'
Doku wins City yet another free-kick, this time being crumpled over by Fofana on the left. De Bruyne passes short to Foden as City enjoy a bit of keep-ball down the attacking left-hand side.
90+1'
Fofana feeds Palmer who turns to run into the attacking half. Laying the ball off to Fernandez, the home captain is fouled by De Bruyne to give the hosts a late attacking free-kick. Palmer taps it short to Gusto who earns a throw-in off of Gvardiol down the right.

Chasing an Ederson clearance down the left-hand flank, a dancing Doku is hacked down from behind by Caicedo's clumsy lunge. Caicedo becomes the first Chelsea man booked this afternoon.
