Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Aston Villa stormed from behind to take the three points against winless Everton at Villa Park. I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Aston Villa’s Champions League adventure kicks off on Tuesday night with a trip to Swiss side, Young Boys. They’re back in league action at home to Wolves next Saturday afternoon. Everton also play on Tuesday evening, hosting Southampton in the Carabao Cup’s third round at Goodison Park. They then face another newly promoted side in the form of Leicester City, when they visit the King Power Stadium in the Premier League in a week’s time.
In sharp contrast, Everton will be absolutely devastated by that outcome. Having lost all three league games coming into this one, the most recent of which also saw them let a two-goal lead slip, this will be gutting. McNeil was a shining light in the first half with a goal and assist as they looked to have Villa where they wanted them. Yet, they were penned in for most of the second half and survived several close shaves before Watkins' second goal eventually drew Villa level. Everton could still have got a point but luck deserted them when Calvert-Lewin's strike rattled the crossbar. They'll be desperate to get their first points on the board very soon as this was another good performance for which they have zero points to show for at the end.
Aston Villa, having been caught sleeping for both of Everton's goals, thoroughly deserved that victory. Even before going behind, they were dominant with Watkins twice going close. Conceding a second sparked them into life as they made the chances count when Watkins halved the gap. Villa then simply overwhelmed Everton with attack after attack. Watkins was denied by Pickford and saw a cutback from Rogers just evade him. Yet, he got his second goal to draw Villa level before Emery emptied his bench. On came Duran, who'd scored winners away at West Ham United and Leicester City already this season as a substitute. He repeated the trick again tonight with a monstrous long-range hit that swerved sublimely into the top corner. Villa go into their Champions League campaign with three league wins from four, the goals flowing and confidence on a high after this superb comeback!
ASTON VILLA COMPLETE THE COMEBACK - A five-goal thriller at Villa Park sees the hosts recover brilliantly to edge a terrific game of football! Everton went two goals up thanks to, firstly, McNeil's accurate finish with the winger then assisting their second as his free kick was turned home by Calvert-Lewin. Villa got one back before the break when Digne's delivery was turned in by Watkins. The hosts really upped the ante in the second half and were remorseless in the pressure they heaped on Everton who eventually buckled as Watkins swept in his second before Duran, off the bench, won another game for Unai Emery's side with an unstoppable scorcher of a left-footed strike. Calvert-Lewin then hit the crossbar as Everton's agonies continue with this their fourth defeat in a row to start the season.

Mangala scuttles up past halfway into the attacking half. He sprays a pass wide right to McNeil. So dangerous earlier on, McNeil chops inside of Maatsen to whip in a delivery which Martinez again anticipates perfectly, coming off his line to claim calmly and eat up a few more precious seconds. He then boots it down-field where Duran, on the left flank, heads for the corner with Keane in pursuit and giving Villa a late throw-in, level with their attacking penalty area.
90+4'
Making inroads down the left wing, Lindstrom does very well to evade Bogarde's challenge and reach the by-line. Having kept it in, though, he clips his cross too close to Martinez who gathers the ball and holds it tightly to keep the clock ticking away.
90+2'
Lindstrom clips it in right-footed. A sliding Maatsen reaches the ball before Keane, enabling Tielemans to hammer the ball clear up to the halfway line.
90+1'
Philogene clumsily catches Young on the left-hand flank as they both compete for a header. Attacking free kick to Everton who have sent all their outfield players up into the box for it...
