Up next for Forest is a trip to Ipswich in the Premier League, where they will look to continue their fine form and push for a top-four finish. Meanwhile, City will return home to host Brighton, hoping to bounce back from this disappointing defeat and close the gap on the teams ahead of them. Don't go anywhere, as three more Premier League matches are set to kick off soon. Until then, this is Sanil Karan signing off.
As the match wore on, City’s frustration grew. Despite a few more half-chances, including a dangerous volley from Kovacic that went wide, Forest were able to hold firm. This victory not only sees them go withing three points of second place Arsenal but also reaffirms their status as one of the Premier League’s most resilient sides. With a solid defensive display and the ability to punish opponents when needed, Forest have proven they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
The second half began with Forest looking the more dangerous of the two teams. They pushed higher up the pitch and started to dictate more of the play. After a series of strong defensive efforts, including a remarkable save from Ederson, Forest finally found their breakthrough in the 83rd minute. Gibbs-White provided a brilliant assist, sending a perfectly weighted pass to Hudson-Odoi, who raced into the box and finished past Ederson at his near right post. The goal seemed to break City’s resolve, and despite late pressure, they were unable to find a way back into the game.
Forest have done it! A crucial victory over Manchester City sees them secure all three points and move beyond the 50-point mark in the Premier League. This win also opens up a four-point gap over City in the race for the top four, giving Forest a significant advantage as they look to secure European football for next season. It was a tactical and patient performance from Forest, who absorbed pressure and struck when the opportunity arose, with Callum Hudson-Odoi's second-half strike proving to be the difference. The first half saw both sides struggle to carve out clear-cut chances, with City dominating possession but failing to find a way past Forest’s resolute defense. There were moments where City came close, with Haaland and Gonzalez both seeing efforts go close, but Forest stood firm, soaking up the pressure and looking dangerous on the counter-attack. Despite City’s dominance in the early exchanges, it was evident that Forest were well-organized and ready to pounce when the moment presented itself.
