Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as an outstanding Liverpool performance earned them all three points at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon, establishing an 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League: I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Potentially awkward midweek assignments in the Premier League for both with Liverpool hosting Newcastle United, in a rerun of the upcoming Carabao Cup final, at Anfield on Wednesday night. That same evening, Man City are away at Spurs.
Super impressive from Liverpool, all afternoon long. We know all about their attacking firepower but, still, the combinations between Salah and Szoboszlai, for both goals, was sublime. Defensively, they kept Man City at arm's length for large spells with both Konate and van Dijk imperious in winning the duels. The whole team, from back to front, worked their socks off to shackle City and, by the end, Liverpool controlled the game, something that not many visitors to the Etihad Stadium have been able to do so convincingly in recent years! It completes the double over Man City and firmly cements Liverpool's position, at the top of the table, as they look to secure the Premier League title in the coming months.
Without Haaland up front, Man City badly lacked a focal point in their attack. As well as, frankly, someone to ruffle Liverpool's feathers and cause some mayhem. De Bruyne, in for a start, was nullified, as was Foden, in the middle. Savinho and Doku, out wide, tried their best to create chances and were City's best players but found themselves expertly thwarted, at every turn, by a Liverpool body. Man City stay in fourth but miss the chance to go third: A chastening Champions League exit followed by this timid defeat is a bad end to a tumultuous week for The Champions, who continue to struggle.
LIVERPOOL MOVE 11 POINTS CLEAR AT THE TOP - A statement win from the Premier League leaders as Liverpool stretch their advantage at the summit to 11 points! First half strikes, both excellently taken, from Salah and Szoboszlai did the damage this afternoon with Man City unable to find a way through Liverpool's superb backline, in the second half. Arne Slot's first visit to the Etihad Stadium ends in a convincing win and he remains on course to guide Liverpool to the title: They certainly played like Champions-to-be, today! An excellent performance and one that must haunt Manchester City of their former, formidable selves of which they have been a pale version of this season.
90+4'
Elliott holds onto the ball on the right touchline, holding off Gvardiol, before sending it back in-field to Endo, on the halfway line, centrally.
90+3'
Foden, running centrally, tries to release McAtee over the top with a dinked pass into the penalty box. But McAtee can't shrug off Konate's attentions, enabling Alisson to come off his line and make a composed gather, on his own penalty spot.
90+2'
Liverpool use up their remaining substitutions, late on here, as the exceptional duo of Alexander-Arnold and Salah are taken off. Quansah and Elliott take over.
