Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Liverpool’s stirring second half saw them come from behind to see off a spirited Southampton at Anfield this afternoon: I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Two huge games for Liverpool before the international break: First, PSG visit Anfield on Tuesday night for the 2nd Leg of the Champions League Last 16, with Liverpool holding a 1-0 lead. That’s before next Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, at Wembley, against Newcastle United, where Liverpool will seek to retain the trophy. As for Southampton they’re at home to Wolves, next Saturday afternoon.
As for Southampton, well, they remain mired in trouble at the foot of the table. But they gave Liverpool a hell of a game with Sulemana, in the first half, brilliant on the left wing. Smallbone had a mixed afternoon: Scoring the opener but then conceding the spot-kick, which gave Liverpool the lead. But he and his teammates kept on going in the second half and didn't wilt, far from it, in the way that some might expect of the Premier League's bottom club. Sugawara's handball, giving a second penalty away, sealed defeat and although today's performance was good, it's ultimately another week without any points for Southampton.
Liverpool really had to fight for those three points, today. A disjointed and sightly sluggish first half was epitomised by the careless manner of the goal they conceded: van Dijk and Alisson miscommunicating. But, boy, did Liverpool respond in the second half: The changes brought renewed energy with Elliott, especially upping the tempo and Mac Allister bringing a fluidity to their passes. Such pressure finally yielded fruit through a fine finish from Nunez and two, excellently taken, borderline unsavable, penalties from Salah. Liverpool get the job done and keep on winning!
LIVERPOOL'S SUPER SECOND HALF SEES THEM STAY ON TRACK - A remarkable second-half recovery from the Premier League leaders, Liverpool, sees them come from behind to defeat a spirited Southampton, at Anfield, this afternoon. The visitors remain bottom but can take a lot from today's performance: Southampton were excellent in the first half, despite losing their captain, Bednarek, to injury and were rewarded before the break with Smallbone's strike, stunning the stadium. But Liverpool are league leaders for a reason and, inspired by a triple substitution over the interval, soon turned things around as Nunez equalised and Salah scored from the spot. A second penalty, also tucked away by Salah, eventually sealed a hard-fought victory for The Reds.
90+6'
Quansah, pressed by Sulemana, calmly goes in-field to Konate. The central defender embarks on a strong carry up-field and is then scythed down, from behind, by Onuachu, who picks up a booking. Elliott sends a poor free kick straight into Southampton's jumping wall of defenders.

Lallana spins away from Elliott, in the centre circle, delightfully. His pass feeds Aribo, who moves into the attacking half, centrally.
90+3'
CHANCE - Onuachu flies down the right flank, at speed. Waiting for teammates to arrive in support, Onuachu has to do something and, in the end, rolls a tame shot into Alisson's gloves, from distance.
