Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as a fantastic Fulham performance brought an end to Newcastle’s early unbeaten start to the season; I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Fulham are on the road next week as they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon. Newcastle have a Carabao Cup third round tie to navigate as they’re away at League Two, Wimbledon on Tuesday night. That precedes their next league outing; a home clash with champions Manchester City at St James’ Park in next Saturday’s lunchtime encounter.
Newcastle started both halves brightly. The outcome may have been different had Joelinton's goal not been ruled out for offside. That being said, their defence was unusually porous this afternoon with Fulham's attackers running them ragged at times. Yes, Pope made an error for the second goal but no Newcastle defender covered themselves in glory either, allowing Smith Rowe to get all the way to the six-yard box to shoot. However, it was a much improved second half display with Barnes scoring and generally menacing Tete at times. Although they couldn't rescue a point, a first defeat of the Premier League season will be one that Eddie Howe will aim for his team to bounce back from as soon as possible.
Fulham were simply sublime this afternoon. Wave after wave of attack and despite hitting the crossbar twice, they took their chances with Jimenez's finish outstanding, Smith Rowe's opportune and Nelson, calmness personified, in netting the game-clinching goal late on. Smith Rowe, despite getting a little lucky for his goal, ran the midfield with a classy display in which he eclipsed Guimaraes for the first half. Bassey and Andersen expertly marshalled the defence and, all in all, this performance, their second win of the Premier League season, should elevate Fulham onwards and upwards!
FULHAM WIN IT - That is an excellent second Premier League win of the season for Fulham who end Newcastle's early unbeaten start emphatically! In a breathlessly open game at Craven Cottage, Joelinton had a fourth minute goal disallowed for offside. Sixty seconds later and Fulham led as Traore's cross was magnificently controlled by Jimenez, who fired into the bottom-right-hand corner. Smith Rowe doubled the lead with a low strike through Pope's hands. Smith Rowe and Andersen rattled the crossbar before Gordon did likewise in Newcastle's clearest opening since conceding. Newcastle made the perfect second half start as substitute, Murphy, made an inspired appearance, playing in Barnes down the left who coolly stroked home. Despite a siege from The Magpies, Fulham scored next, in injury time, when Guimaraes played a blind pass straight to Muniz inside the area. He teed up Nelson who thrashed the ball past Pope for his first Premier League goal for Fulham that clinched a thoroughly deserved three points for Marco Silva's side.

Tete flights a long, diagonal over the head of Tonali as Nelson brings it down and sears past Livramento on the left flank to win Fulham a late throw-in inside the attacking half.

NELSON SECURES FULHAM VICTORY - Clincher for The Cottagers! Guimarares, pursued by Iwobi, down the right tries to clear but instead plays a blind pass across his own penalty box, straight to Muniz. The ball bounces off Muniz, at pace, before it breaks left into Nelson's path. Nelson, with no Newcastle defender nearby, blasts home from ten yards out, emphatically sending the ball high into the top left corner past a stranded Pope! Surely, that's all three points sealed for Fulham now.
