Victory brings Bournemouth up to eleventh position in the Premier League, who travel to Leicester next up in another crucial battle at the bottom half of the table. Meanwhile, Southampton remain firmly rooted in the relegation zone on just a solitary point. It does not get any easier for The Saints, who travel to title contenders Arsenal next up.
The full-time whistle goes at the Vitality Stadium and it's Bournemouth who take the bragging rights in this south coast derby! All the damage was done inside the first half, with Bournemouth cruising to a three goal lead before the break. Southampton improved in the second half and threatened an unlikely comeback through Taylor Harwood-Bellis's goal in the 51st minute. But the rest of the game played out to be a stalemate, with The Saints failing to find another way through the Bournemouth defence. The result will put Southampton manager Russell Martin under further pressure too, after his decision to start with no out-and-out striker backfired.
