Newcastle United have hobbled into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with an uninspiring one-goal victory over AFC Wimbledon. Make sure you join us again on Tribe for all the Premier League action this coming weekend. It's been a pleasure bringing you this one from St James' Park. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Attention now turns back to the Premier League for Newcastle, who make the trip to Everton on the weekend. They'll be expected to pick up points at Goodison, whilst Wimbledon return to League Two action for the first time in two weeks with a trip to Salford City.
Wimbeldon fought hard in contrast, and found a way to frustrate their far more fancied Premier League opposition, with a very disciplined and organised defence. Johnnie Jackson opted for five at the back, and it worked to a tee, disrupting the Newcastle attack, and finding a way to keep the likes of Osula, Almiron, and Barnes on a leash. They conceded few chances, and captain Joe Lewis was a clear stand-out with his defensive work at the back. The Dons lacked a target man going forward though, and struggled to get any go-forward on the counter, failing to create anything of note throughout the match. It's a shame they couldn't reward the travelling fans with a goal, but ultimately they were outplayed through the middle of the pitch, and the Dons make a Carabao Cup exit at the third round, after a strong run.
A rather cagey and uninspired performance from Newcastle United tonight, who enjoyed over 80% of the possession, but struggled to convert their dominance into anything commanding on the scoreboard. They were guillty of playing too patiently and laterally at times, and struggled to find a way through Wimbledon's disciplined back five, creating just three shots on target across the 90 minutes. As it turned out, Schar's goal from the penalty spot was all that was required, but on another night they might have been made to pay for their lack of creativity. Dubravka's injury in the first half will be another blight, but it was otherwise a good opportunity for Eddie Howe to inject some more minutes into his wider squad. They'll advance to the fourth round for the third time in as many seasons.
Fulltime at St James' Park and Newcastle have booked their spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a one-goal victory over AFC Wimbledon. It looked close on the scoreboard, but it was anything but on the pitch, with the Magpies dictating for the entirety, but only finding the net once via a spot kick from Fabian Schar just before halftime. The League Two side fought hard to frustrate thoughout, but it's Newcastle who'll move on to face Chelsea in the last sixteen.

SAVE! Lewis manages to intercept again, and Wimbledon win a throw on the left flank. They throw everyone forward for it, and Harbottle comes across to take. He launches it long, where the ball bobbles around, before Harbottle fires a right-footed shot straight into the arms of Vlachodimos.
90+4'
Willock loses the ball at the top of the box this time, and Wimbledon hoof clear. It comes all the way back to the keeper, who takes his time before launching back over halfway for Livramento down the right.
90+3'
Lewis is back to win possession again for the Dons, and the visitors push forward once more. Willock steals it back with a strong challenge in midfield though, and he links up with Guimaraes through the middle. Newcastle opt to slow it down with seconds left.
90+2'
Into five minutes of injury-time, and Wimbledon manage to pinch possession inside the attacking half as they press higher. Smith and Furlong both get touches, before the latter tries a delivery into the middle off the left. It's well blocked by Joelinton though, who intercepts and sends long downfield in search of Gordon.
