This win lifts Eddie Howe’s Newcastle up to 11th place, closing the gap to just two points from a European spot due to the tight nature of the table. Meanwhile, Leicester’s concerning away form continues leaving Van Nistelrooy’s side two points above the relegation zone in 16th.
Newcastle made an electric start to the second half, effectively putting the game beyond Leicester’s reach within the first five minutes. Danny Ward, filling in for the injured Hermansen, had no answer to Bruno Guimaraes’ header following a well-executed set-piece routine in the 47th minute. Moments later, Lewis Hall set up another goal, delivering a deflected cross for Alexander Isak to score. Although Jacob Murphy blazed a first-time effort over the bar after a brilliant run from Isak, he made amends just before the hour mark with a well-taken finish from a similar position, set up once again by Isak. Newcastle’s relentless attacking display meant four goals were more than enough to seal a comfortable win over a Leicester side who were outclassed throughout.
Newcastle started the game brightly, looking to end their recent disappointing run with a positive display at St. James’ Park. Anthony Gordon was particularly lively, testing Mads Hermansen with a powerful shot that required a strong save from the Leicester keeper. The resulting corner saw Dan Burn narrowly miss a header, but Newcastle continued to apply pressure throughout the first half. After a tough opening half-hour where Leicester were able to absorb the pressure, the hosts finally broke through as Gordon’s cutback found Jacob Murphy, who redeemed an earlier miss by coolly slotting the ball past Hermansen. Despite a late first-half chance for Alexander Isak, his tame finish straight at the keeper prevented Newcastle from doubling their lead before the break.

Newcastle seem to have declared on four as they simply pass the ball around in midfield, avoiding any risky plays. It's a comfortable, controlled approach from the home side as they manage the game.
90+3'
Hall stands over the free kick on the right and delivers a cross into the left side of the box. Schar rises to head it down, but McAteer reacts quickly, getting there first to clear the danger. Good defensive work from McAteer to deny Newcastle another.
90+2'
Trippier finds Barnes on the right, and Barnes easily gets past Vestergaard. The Leicester defender brings him down, earning a yellow card for the foul. It was a clear foul and a frustrating moment for Vestergaard. He knew what he was doing.
