That rounds things off from Newcastle, where the home side have won with ease! For now this is Nicholas Friedlander signing out.
For Brentford, this is not exactly a set back, because they came not expecting anything, and they have left with nothing. Once their subs came on, they were way better, but equally that was once the game was pretty much already done. Mikel Damsgaard was class in the middle of the park, and showed why he is considered one of the Premier League's most improved players in 2024. Brentford's attentions turn back to the league, where they take on Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
The Magpies were simply too dominant on their home patch, with their full-strength side too good. Their turnarounds between games were certainly kinder than those of Brentford, who of course also had to make the lengthy journey up from the Capital. That said, credit still has to go to the home side, who barely gave up a chance in the first 75 minutes, only slightly letting off once the game was already finished as a contest. Sandro Tonali secured a brace, and with a bit of luck could have had a hat-trick, whilst Dan Burn led a solid defensive shift. The whole frontline was dangerous, in a great team performance. Arsenal and Liverpool will join them in them in the semi-finals, along with the winner of tomorrow night's game between Tottenham and Manchester United, so to win this cup won't be easy!
Newcastle United are through to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup for the second time in three seasons, having eased their way past a rotated Brentford side. The damage was largely done in the first half, before Fabian Schaar put a seal on things midway through the second half. There was a consolation late on for the Bees, as Yoanne Wissa finished off a slick counter, but it was too little too late for the Londoners, whose abysmal away run continued.

BLOCKED! Osula goes charging down the right, looking for the last say. Ajer went stride for stride though, diving across as Osula struck it from the near post. A goos strong block, and Flekken is able to smother it in the end.

WIDE! Newcastle race onto the attack looking to restore their three goal lead, playing down the left. The ball spat into the past of Guimaraes just inside the box, who smashed it on the half-volley, seeing it just wide of the post.

BRENTFORD GET A CONSOLATION! Damsgaard does well to fight his way through midfield, spinning a cracking ball in down the right channel for the run of Mbeumo. He broke onto it inside the box, squaring it for Wissa who was able to tap it in at the back post as Dubravka had no chance!
