SAVE! Opens up for Newcastle and Isak picks it up in a bit of space 5 yards outside the box. Takes a touch before firing a shot away which Raya saves. Joelinton then concedes a foul in the followup, tripping Timber. 

TEAM NEWS: NEWCASTLE - Eddie Howe has made three changes to the side that lost to Chelsea last time out. Sean Longstaff replaces Tonali in midfield with Joe Willock also joining him there. Anthony Gordon returns in attack forcing Harvey Barnes onto the bench. 

Raya claims a lacklustre corner and gets Arsenal going quickly enough. Worked out to Saka on the right and he makes a good run to the byline before playing a lovely low cross into the 6 yard box. Too far for Pope to come and claim but no Arsenal player gets on the end of it, with it being hastily hooked behind for a corner. 

Arsenal have planty of men forward as they put some early pressure on the Newcastle defenders. Nothing materialises though with Trossard eventually dragging a shot wide from outside the box. 

Tonali brings down Havertz from behind just as the German was starting to advance. Easy yellow to give. 

Into the first of three additional minutes and Arsenal are slowly moving the ball forward, but Newcastle are playing well out of possession, quickly closing the Arsenal players down. Martinelli links up with Merino down the left and the cross is floated in towards the back post. Arsenal have players there but Pope comes and punches clear. 

Arsenal work it right and open Newcastle up in the process. Partey cuts inside and passes to Trossard. He looks to find Saka making a run through the middle but there's slightly too much on the pass. 

Newcastle take some time off the clock and add another defender into the mix, bringing Kelly on for Guimaraes. 

SHOT! Willock with a few lovely touches, one to get past Partey and he knocks it for himself to chase. Just Saliba to beat but the French centre half marshals him well, forcing him into a tough shot. Gets it away with his left looking to find the roof of the net, but it flies over the bar. 

Arsenal with it still and it's moved to Merino on the left flank. He's in plenty of space to cross but plays it far too close to Pope who claims easily. 

Double change for Arsenal with Zinchenko and Nwaneri coming on. Two gifted technical players that could provide some impetus for Arsenal. 

The Gunners concede a couple of needless fouls down the Newcastle left hand side, with Partey then receiving a final warning from the referee after giving away another free kick. 

Arsenal doing what they can to try and force an equaliser but Newcastle look quite comfortable defensively right now. Arsenal trying different avenues of attack but there always seems to be a defender waiting to meet them. All a bit predictable from the Gunners. 

All a bit passive from Arsenal at the moment as they pass it around just inside their own half. Looking to invite Newcastle on to open up space for their attacking players to run into. Newcastle are unfazed though, defending everything solidly. 

Newcastle break forward on the counter down the right and Gordon swings another inviting ball in from a similar position to the cross the led to the goal. No one can get on the end of this one though and Arsenal clear for now. 

Gordon with a phenomenal bit of defending to get his body in front of Jesus to dispossess him. That one could have gone wrong had he mistimed that challenge, but that was perfect. That will be his last action of the game with Harvey Barnes now coming on to replace him. 

Newcastle with half a chance to break forward but Gordon lingers on the ball a tad too long, allowing Gabriel to get back and steal it away. Arsenal pick it back up and stalk the box, looking for a way through. 

Another two changes made by Arteta with White and Jesus replacing Timber and Trossard. 

Guimaraes swings a foot at one and makes contact with Merino who just poked it away from him. He's feeling some pain in his foot in the aftermath and needs the physios to take a quick look. Back to his feet now though as he waddles over to the sideline. 

Newcastle shifting between defensive tactics at the moment, sitting back in a low block before occasionally shooting out to press Arsenal when it's closer to halfway. Arsenal moving it well though with Havertz taking a pass well just inside the box. Turns well and clips a cross to the back post. Saka tries to get up to head on goal but it just skews wide. Good chance, positive signs for Arsenal. 

Newcastle working exceptionally hard out of possession and they're forcing Arsenal into some uncomfortable passes Trossard then arrives a fraction late to a challenge on Willock, leading to a free kick to the home side. 

Pope into the book for delaying the goal kick. 

No changes for either side as the second half gets underway. Will we see a response from these Arsenal players? And if not how long before Mikel Arteta turns to his bench. 

Another good delivery to the back post and Trossard passes it towards goal. Hall is again positioned well on the line to block with Pope waiting behind him as well. Newcastle clear for now. 

Five minutes for Newcastle to hold on for what would be a famous win. Nwaneri picks it up in a bit of space and dribbles onto his left foot at the edge of the box. Tries to get the shot away but it goes high and wide. 

Deep free kick towards Saliba and Martinelli at the back post. They don't communicate though and get in each other's way, forcing the ball over the byline for a goal kick. 

Martinelli runs at Livramento down the left but can't get past the young fullback. The Englishman is winning that battle at the moment, comfortably so as well. Arsenal can't keep running down the same blind alleys. 

Partey tries to find Nwaneri running into a gap between defenders but slightly overhits the pass. Through to Pope who scoops it up. 

Arsenal pressing high and hard in the early stages. Newcastle struggling to work it forward to their attacking threats at the moment. They're pinned inside their own half both on and off the ball. 

CHANCE! Newcastle nearly putting this one to bed after Arsenal give it away deep inside their own half. Crossed dinked across the 6 yard box from the right with Joelinton arriving at the back post. Gets his head on target but Raya showed good footwork to get across quickly and save. 

Arsenal win a free kick in a promising position but Rice's delivery is a poor one. Doesn't beat the first man and Newcastle settle into a bit of possession inside their own half. 

SHOT! Timber makes an inverted run in off the left and runs into a centre forward role. No one picks him up and Raya finds him with a long ball forward. Moves it to the edge of the box and holds up play nicely allowing some support to arrive. Lays it off to Saka on the right who lines up a shot. Tries to beat Pope at the near post but it goes just wide. 

Newcastle on the other hand will be looking for a statement win to kickstart their season after a fairly poor start to this campaign. This one should be a belter, what a way to kick off another weekend of Premier League action! Stay tuned with kickoff not far away. 

Merino wins a foul from Schar which Rice walks over to take. Arsenal are normally good from these positions but he hits the free kick straight at Gordon who is in a one man wall. Wasteful. 

Arsenal will feel that anything short of three points today will be a disappointment. They've already dropped points in what is shaping up to be a very exciting title race and can't afford to drop any further behind. Still though, this is no easy place to come and win as they discovered last year, when some controversial refereeing decisions went against Arsenal. Newcastle came away with all three points thanks to an Anthony Gordon close range finish. 

Lazy sliding challenge from Merino. He went through the back of Guimaraes in the centre circle and is the first Arsenal player to be booked. 

Arsenal win a corner of their own after Schar switches off momentarily allowing Trossard on the ball at the edge of the box. Links up nicely with Havertz down the left and it's put behind for a corner before Trossard can cut to the byline. 

Direct from the home side as Willock picks out Gordon running down the right. Cuts into the box and fires it across the face of goal, but it takes a deflection and goes behind for a corner. Arsenal rocking at the back here. 

NEWCASTLE AHEAD EARLY! Arsenal fail to properly clear their lines and it's worked out wide to Gordon in a bit of space on the right. Hits a cross first time and it's on a plate for Isak who has crept between the two Arsenal centre halves. Leaps highest to it and heads powerfully into the top left corner past a helpless David Raya. What a ball in, what a header. Newcastle ahead against the run of play! 

Arteta may choose to alter things slightly in terms of personnel. He has some decent attacking options on the bench, with the likes of Jesus, Nwaneri, Sterling all waiting in the wings to try and provide a spark. Eddie Howe will be looking for more of the same from his players. Another goal will really have Arsenal struggling and they have showed their defensive resilience already in this game. A lot to like about that first half performance. 

Arsenal with it in the Newcastle defensive third but the home side look rather assured in this low block. Arsenal with a couple of crosses but an offside flag goes up against Havertz. 

Newcastle with an enormous win, both in the context of their season and the title race as well. Slot and Pep's two sides are kicking off in about half an hour and they will be licking their lips at that result. They have the chance to pull away and put some big distance between them and Arsenal, who could finish the weekend as low as seventh place. 

Hello and welcome to Tribe for live coverage of the English Premier League. We're at St James' Park for Newcastle against Arsenal. I'm Elliott Johns and I'll have all the action for you as it happens. 

Pope claws the corner delivery away and it bounces just out of reach of Gabriel on the rebound. He then concedes a foul on the followup just outside the Newcastle box, allowing the home side to clear. 

BLOCK! Brilliant corner to the back post from Rice and Saliba heads back inside. Falls for Merino and he puts a big boot through the ball. Pope is scrambling back across and looks to be struggling but Hall is perfectly positioned to block what would have been a certain goal. 

Arsenal attacking once more and it's Saka linking up with Merino down the right. They've been Arsenal's best players so far but all they can manage is a throw in. Newcastle defending tight to their man at the moment. 

Gordon puts his keeper under a bit of pressure with a driven pass back and Pope is forced to put it out for a throw. Newcastle defend the ensuing period well though, Pope coming to claim the ball eventually. 

Underway in the North East! Arsenal start out in possession and move it forward to Saka down the right. He cuts inside and tries to play a one two with Havertz but Dan Burn intercepts and clears. 

Trossard meets Gordon's free kick at the near post and hooks it clear. Newcasrle retain possession though and work it down the right. Longstaff can't keep it though and Martinelli then wins a throw in close to his own byline. 

Good from Arsenal down the left with Timber feeding a pass forward to Trossard. Runs into a bit of space before giving outside to Martinelli. He's marked by two and does well to win a corner off Livramento. 

SAVE! Good early opportunity for the home side as Gordon is found in a bit of space down the right. Passes inside to Willock who shoots from a tight angle. Raya had that one covered though and saves. 

Good play from Newcastle and they've won a corner. Slick passing through the midfield and they've cut Arsenal open as Willock is freed down the left hand side. Plays it to the underlapping Guimaraes who takes it to the byline. Tries the cut back but Saliba gets his body in the way to force a corner. 

Good direct run from Rice from a deep midfield position and he keeps going, shrugging off tackles on his way. Darts into the box and gets a shot away which deflects off a Newcastle player in front of him. Still goes close though, just shaving the outside of the post on its way out for a corner. 

Arsenal don't look comfortable at the moment here. Arteta barking out orders a bit more than he usually does with some of his players looking a bit lost at sea. They just need to remain calm and stick to their plan. They're more than good enough to work some good opportunities. 

Jorginho hasn't been on the pitch long but leaves a leg hanging to catch Guimaraes. 

Arsenal still dominating the ball and they're playing with it in the Newcastle final third. Just look to be lacking a bit of creative spark with Newcastle too easily reading every pass into the box. 

Willock dives into the challenge on Nwaneri and earns himself a yellow card. Reckless from the former Arsenal player. 

Arsenal with some good positive play forward, peppering the Newcastle box with crosses. Partey tries an inswinger from the left hand side but it's defended well and goes behind for a goal kick. 

Sloppy from Gabriel as Arsenal try to pass it out from the back. Nothing comes from it though with Longstaff then pulling back Trossard as he tried to counter. Schar then kicks it away, delaying a restart, earning himself the first yellow of the game. 

Arsenal with a couple of last ditch crosses into the box but Pope does well, punching away the first one before catching the second. He then lumps it forward with the crowd begging for the final whistle. It doesn't come just yet but Havertz then tangles with Burn, earning himself a yellow card in the process. 

A difficult day for this Arsenal side. They didn't create nearly enough and they're now without a win in the last 3 Premier League games. Full credit to Newcastle today and this win could prove to be exactly what they need to kickstart their season. They dominated Arsenal in all facets of the game, defending them brilliantly in the wide channels and not allowing anything to materialise. Such a defensively sound performance that humbled this Arsenal team. 

TEAM NEWS: ARSENAL - Some good news in the Arsenal ranks in terms of injury news. Centre back Gabriel had to be taken off in the draw against Liverpool with an apparent knee injury. He's been passed fit to play today though and he lines out alongside Saliba who returns after serving his one game suspension. Ben White is only fit enough for the bench so Thomas Partey starts at right back. Rice and Merino make up central midfield with Saka, Martinelli, Trossard and Havertz providing the attacking threat. 

Willock makes way for Tonali. The former Arsenal player has been good today. 

Long ball switched out to Saka on the right, passed inside to Jorginho who finds the inverted run into the space in the box from White. Just a heavy touch though and Lewis Hall hooks clear. 

Rice doing the most for Arsenal in the last couple of minutes. He's making more advanced runs and attacks Livramento down the left hand side. Tries to cross and deflects behind for a corner. 

Concerns for Nick Pope who is down receiving some treatment to what looks to be an injury to his upper leg. Back to his feet now though and looks like he'll be ok to continue. It'll be a goal kick to restart play.

Newcastle carve open Arsenal as they break forward on the counter. Zinchenko at fault for giving it away in midfield and Longstaff runs onto a pass in the box. Gets to the ball first and wins a corner off Gabriel. 

Arsenal beginning to apply some pressure but again this Newcastle defence is standing tall. Repelling every attack thrown at them with the fullbacks playing exceptionally well, not allowing Saka and Jesus any joy in the wide positions. 

CHANCE! Newcastle look oh so comfortable in this low block as Arsenal continue to struggle to find a way through this defence. Nwaneri with some lovely skill to get away from his man before recycling back to Gabriel. Newcastle with all 11 sat deep inside their own half. Played out to Saka on the right and he puts it on a plate for Rice who has got goal side of his marker. Free header at the back post but he's put it wide! 

This game just starting to get away from Arsenal and Mikel Arteta is readying some changes down in the dugout. These can't come quickly enough from an Arsenal perspective, the answers they need are not being provided by the current 11 players out there. 

A poignant rendition of The Last Post just prior to kickoff. Lest we forget. 

SHOT! Guimaraes collects at the edge of the box and is afforded a bit of space. Decides to shoot and it takes a deflection off Willock. Raya reads it well though and stays calm to scoop it up. A slightly bigger deflection and that could have been dangerous for the Arsenal keeper with him already going the wrong way. 

Tonali with a good dribble and he's tripped cynically by Timber. Free kick and a yellow card. 

Merino gets up to meet Rice's delivery at the back post but it's blocked and Guimaraes clears it away. Worked forward now with a switch played out to Gordon on the right. Links up with Livramento who plays a ball into Longstaff inside the box. Turns and tries to cross but it comes off Rice and ricochets away for a corner. 

Final sub now for Arsenal with Jorginho replacing Partey. 

Half time in the Northeast and it's the home side that go into the sheds a goal ahead. Isak headed home from a sumptuous cross from Gordon and they've been on top since then. Arsenal have had their chances as well, the biggest coming after Lewis Hall blocked a Merino shot off the line. Arsenal have been second best to almost everything, looking bereft of attacking ideas.
