Everton, on the other hand, will be left wondering how they let this game slip away. Despite dominating for much of the match, they could not hold onto their advantage and failed to capitalize on several promising opportunities. The final whistle brought with it a sense of disbelief for the home side, who looked set to claim all three points but had to settle for just one after a dramatic second half. For United, it’s a point they will gratefully accept, especially given their first-half performance, but the pressure will remain on Amorim’s men to improve.
Something changed for United after the break. United came out with renewed energy and grabbed a foothold in the game. Fernandes pulled one back with a stunning free kick from the edge of the box, finding the bottom right corner to give the visitors a glimmer of hope. Then, in the 80th minute, Ugarte brought United level with a powerful volley after a cleared corner, sending the away fans into ecstasy. What seemed like a lost cause just moments earlier had now turned into a hard-fought battle, with United leveling the scores and looking the more likely team to grab a winner.
The full-time whistle blows at Goodison Park, and boos ring out from the Everton fans, voicing their frustration with the officials. The drama unfolded in stoppage time when Everton were awarded a penalty after a challenge from United’s de Ligt on Young. However, after a lengthy VAR review, referee Andy Madley was sent to the monitor, and to the disbelief of the Everton supporters, he overturned the decision. This decision left the hosts furious, as it seemed the penalty would surely stand, but in the end, the match continued without the chance to extend their lead. As for Manchester United, it was a remarkable turnaround after what can only be described as their worst half of football under Ruben Amorim. They were completely outclassed in the opening 45 minutes, finding themselves two goals down at the break thanks to strikes from Beto and Doucoure. Both goals were the result of defensive mistakes from the visitors, who failed to close down their opponents. United had no shots on target in the first half and struggled to make any significant impact on the game, with their only shot coming from a long-range effort by Ugarte that went wide.
Gueye is booked after the final whistle, presumably for dissent.

United have a late opportunity as Fernandes swings in a corner from the left. There's a scramble in the box, with the ball bouncing around dangerously, but Everton hold firm and manage to clear their lines.

Onana launches the ball forward, looking for Zirkzee on the left, but the pass is a poor one, and Garnacho can’t get on the end of it. Everton get it away from the danger area.

After that lengthy VAR delay, play finally resumes, with the referee allowing the required time for the review process. United keep possession, working the ball around outside the Everton box, trying to break down the defense but finding little space as Everton stay compact and organized.
