That wraps things up from this one, but thanks for joining us. This is Ryan Nixon (@NewYorkNixon) signing off.
Liverpool will be pleased to get the points despite being frustrated by a solid Girona defensive effort for much of the evening. Girona's back four stood strong, with Juanpe standing out, while Alejandro Frances did well in a battle with Luis Diaz. Yaser Asprilla was their standout though, alongside Oriol Romeu in midfield. For Liverpool, their own defensive effort was strong, with Ryan Gravenberch again a standout.
On another night, this scoreline could have been anything, with both sides creating plenty of chances in an engrossing encounter. Liverpool had started the game the better, with Paulo Gazzaniga setting the tone for his performance with early saves to deny Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez before Girona settled into the contest. Arnaut Danjuma, Miguel Gutierrez and Yaser Asprilla created plenty, and Alisson was called upon to preserve his own clean sheet with a couple of sharp saves. In the second half, Girona's attack lost their way though, and it was Gazzaniga who was the busier of the keepers. He couldn't deny Salah's spot kick though, ensuring Liverpool claimed the three points.
So Liverpool continue their perfect record to start the Champions League season, making it six from six, and still yet to concede a goal since their early concession against Milan in the opening game. This was by no means an easy win though, with Girona creating plenty of opportunities - particularly in the first half - and forcing Alisson into a number of key saves. However, Liverpool took control of the game in the second half, with Mohamed Salah's penalty the difference after Donny van de Beek had fouled Luis Diaz inside the area. It took a VAR review to spot it, but that mattered little, as Salah buried the finish, and Liverpool saw things home from there with relative comfort.

It's last chance saloon now for Girona, but Frances sees his cross headed away by van Dijk. Liverpool then go the other way, but Salah's shot flicks off Romeu and behind for a corner.
