It doesn't get any easier for West Ham as they head to Aston Villa for their next fixture. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace will look to build on their strong performance as they host Brentford. Thanks for joining Tribe for today's coverage. Be sure to switch tabs as Arsenal v. Aston Villa kicks off shortly. Until next time, this is Sanil Karan signing off.
As the game neared its conclusion, West Ham’s hopes of a comeback were dashed with 10 minutes remaining when Konstantinos Mavropanos received a second yellow card for a high challenge on Mateta, leaving the hosts a man down. The dismissal proved costly for West Ham, as Palace took full advantage of their numerical superiority and sealed the win late on. Mateta converted a penalty after Eddie Nketiah was fouled by Fabianski in the box, securing a richly deserved victory for Crystal Palace.
West Ham’s disjointed performance was punished early in the second half when Jean-Philippe Mateta latched onto a clever ball from Eberechi Eze and calmly slotted it past Lukasz Fabianski to give Crystal Palace the lead. The momentum shifted firmly in Palace’s favor, and they nearly doubled their advantage on the hour mark when Maxence Lacroix's close-range effort was denied by a strong save from Fabianski. West Ham, struggling to create anything clear-cut, responded with Edson Alvarez shooting wide from distance as the home fans grew increasingly frustrated with their team's lack of attacking intent.
The opening minutes were tightly contested, with Palace slightly edging proceedings as Mateta saw a sharp shot across goal saved by Lukasz Fabianski. West Ham, relieved by the save, struggled to get a foothold in the match as the first half progressed, with clear chances hard to come by as Palace’s defense stood firm. Graham Potter’s side continued to search for a breakthrough approaching halftime, but Lucas Paqueta squandered their best opportunity, sending a speculative volley wide of the mark.
