Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Iliman Ndiaye’s penalty proved enough for Everton to edge past Brighton at the Amex Stadium this afternoon: I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Brighton face an intriguing encounter in next Saturday’s lunchtime fixture when they’re at the City Ground, against high-flying Nottingham Forest. Later that same afternoon, Everton are back in action at home to Leicester City.
David Moyes makes it successive Premier League wins in charge of Everton with this, his first away game since re-joining, a huge victory! Every single Everton player was immense and they shrugged off the cruelty of losing Calvert-Lewin to an early injury with aplomb. Branthwaite, in particular, always seemed to be in the right place at the right time defensively and Everton cannily drew any budding Brighton momentum with tactical fouls and the like. It's a very different way to win after the thriller against Spurs last weekend but it'll feel equally satisfying to Moyes and his squad!
Frustration will be the ultimate feeling for Brighton, after that. Although they had the lion's share of possession, they didn't really extend Pickford in Everton's goal, all that often. The service to Pedro and Welbeck was sporadic whilst their backline was unsettled by Beto's physicality. Brighton and Veltman will dispute the penalty that was given against them but what's not up for dispute is their failure to break down a sturdy, immovable Everton defence that sat deep and soaked up the pressure. After two successive wins, it's back to the drawing board for Fabian Hurzeler.
EVERTON HOLD ON FOR A PRECIOUS THREE POINTS - What a huge win for Everton! A bit of pushing and shoving kicks off at the full-time whistle as a niggly game, which has been simmering throughout, comes to it's conclusion. It's handbags, really, as Minteh squares up to Tarkowski, causing all the players to get involved, O'Brien storming in to shove Minteh back. Despite the game being over, both Minteh and O'Brien are cautioned for their roles in the kerfuffle. But it soon dissipates as Everton celebrate a massive win! Ndiaye's first-half penalty, controversially given, is the difference in the end and Everton move further clear of relegation. As for Brighton, a nasty bump back down after two successive wins, they just couldn't breach an Everton defence, which refused to buckle all afternoon.

Garner and Beto do superbly down the left to hold onto the ball as the latter lays it off to Garner, who holds onto it on the halfway line. Everton are nearly there...

O'Riley wins a throw-in on the right and prepares a long one to go into the middle from the right. Verbruggen is given the nod to go up by his manager! The throw, though, sails over his head, running through to Hinshelwood, on the left. But the offside flag then goes up against Welbeck, giving Everton a late free kick.
