Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Aston Villa stormed from behind to deny Graham Potter a winning start to life as West Ham manager and book themselves an FA Cup fourth round tie: I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Midweek Premier League action beckons for both as Villa travel to Goodison Park on Wednesday evening to face Everton. West Ham are in action the night before, hosting Fulham at the London Stadium.
West Ham, with Potter at the helm for the first time, can take a lot of good things from this evening's game. Scarles shone at left-back, really restricting Bailey out wide whilst Paqueta and Kudus, who both need to step up given West Ham's attacking injuries, were frequent thorns in the side of Villa's defence all night. They'll be disappointed that the game turned on them so quickly but Ings had chances to force Extra-Time and, ultimately, they bow out of the FA Cup early on. Potter will be eyeing the same level of performance but, ultimately, different results as his tenure progresses.
Aston Villa, who really didn't play well for large portions of tonight's match, find a way to win. The second-half relentlessness was a huge positive for them, considering they struggled to get any sort of momentum going before then. Watkins, quiet early on, grew into the game and really proved a decisive figure, showing great composure and unselfishness in teeing up Rogers for the winner. Plenty for them to improve on but a win's a win as they secure a place in the fourth round!
ASTON VILLA RALLY TO REACH THE FA CUP'S FOURTH ROUND - A dramatic third round tie sees Aston Villa advance to the FA Cup's fourth round as two goals in five second-half minutes is enough to see off a spirited West Ham United at Villa Park this evening! The visitors, with Graham Potter a new face in the dugout, led nine minutes in thanks to a great goal, finished off by Paqueta. They then frustrated Villa for large spells but were undone when, following a corner that perhaps shouldn't have been given, Fabianski spilled a Maatsen shot that allowed Onana to profit, feasting on the rebound. That gave Villa momentum and, moments later, they led when great work from Watkins saw him set up Rogers, for a clinical finish. West Ham went for it at the end but couldn't find the second goal that would have forced Extra-Time: Villa advance!
90+5'
CHANCE - Cresswell crosses from the left. It's inviting and into a packed six-yard box. Olsen parries it unconvincingly, straight to the lurking Ings. His first touch allows him to shoot but, leaning back, the substitute lashes over on the stretch from less than six yards out!
90+4'
Villa have the ball where they want it as Buendia, dribbling down the left wing, forces an attacking throw-in off of Coufal, on the right-edge of his own box. Maatsen, in no hurry whatsoever, strolls up to take it for Villa.
90+2'
CHANCE - Wan-Bissaka crosses from the right, looking for Ings, steaming in at the back post. Ings can't get underneath it, stooping all the time, heading the ball wide of the left post from five yards out! Was that the chance?
90+1'
Kudus, coming centrally to the edge of the box, spins a ball across to Wan-Bissaka. His first touch is heavy, though, enabling Maatsen to surge across and win the ball back for Villa, inside his own box.
