Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Aston Villa’s man of the hour, Jhon Duran, delivered another match-winning impact off the bench as Villa went two from two in the Champions League to inflict the first defeat of Vincent Kompany’s tenure onto Bayern Munich tonight; I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Villa are back here on Sunday hosting Manchester United. Bayern are away at Frankfurt later that same afternoon, with the international break then following for both teams.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, struggled to assert any prolonged dominance in that match. Whilst they enjoyed more possession, the Bundesliga side didn't get Kane into the game at all, really. Their best chances came when Olise, coming inside, curled for the top left corner, which Martinez saved followed by late efforts from Gnabry and Kane, which Villa's netminder excellently repelled. In contrast to Duran's arrival, none of Vincent Kompany's substitutions imposed themselves on proceedings tonight. So, after sticking nine past Dinamo Zagreb on matchnight one, Bayern have been brought back to earth with an almighty bump as tonight is their first defeat under Kompany's management.
Aston Villa were absolutely superb, again, this evening. Resolute at the back, with Konsa and Torres especially shining, controlled in midfield and clinical up front. Emery is maximising his squad as Duran, the club's top scorer, got another winning goal off the bench, this one spectacularly beating an exposed Neuer. Martinez, filling in as captain with McGinn injured, led the way with a couple of stunning saves from Olise and Kane as well as, generally, being confident to relieve the pressure with assertive claims throughout. It's a brilliant result and they have six points from six so far in their return to the Champions League!
ASTON VILLA GO TWO FROM TWO IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - Villa have returned to Europe's top club competition with a bang; two wins from two and the scalp of Bayern Munich taken tonight! They thought they'd led when Torres poked home in the first half only for the offside flag to go up. Martinez kept out an Olise curler before a tense second half ensued. Home manager, Unai Emery, deployed the ace up his sleeve as he sent on Duran with twenty minutes remaining. Duran then duly netted a sublime winner, latching onto Torres's pass from deep and beating Neuer with a ferocious hit from outside the box! Late goalkeeping heroics from Martinez, denying Kane at the death, ensured a winning start to Champions League life at Villa Park on a memorable night!

SAVE - Kimmich's corner from the left is met by Kane, at the front post, with a glancing header that's heading in until Martinez flies across his goal to his right, scrambling the ball away at the last! Torres hacks the loose ball out of play.
