That rounds things off this evening, where a win for Aston Villa has seen them sneak into the top eight! For now, this is Nicholas Friedlander signing off.
All is not lost for Celtic, who still progress, though they now have a much tougher assignment, with a two-legged clash against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich coming in a fortnight. That would seem a bridge too far for them on tonight's evidence, as they are horribly lacking defensively at this level. The intensity of the Villa forwards caused a catalogue of errors, and you can expect the same from both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Jota will make a difference going forward, but it is at the back they have to fix things if they are any chance at progressing.
Aston Villa simply possessed too much quality for Celtic, but they know they will have to improve if they are to go further in this competition. The standard will go up from here, so all eyes will be on what they can achieve in the transfer market, because they are light both at the back and up front. Jhon Duran did not take to the the field, so it would seem a move away from the club will be confirmed in the coming days, meaning they surely have to act. Their attention turns to league action before their Round of 16 tie in just over a month.
Villa did not do it the easy way, but with confirmation of a draw between Barcelona and Atalanta, they sneak into eight spot, and with that avoid the playoff round. Morgan Rogers fired them in front early on, grabbing his second just moments later, with it looking like the home side would breeze to a huge victory - but that was not the case. Adam Idah responded with a brace, but Celtic did not quite have enough to kick on from there. Watkins was given several chances in the second half, and though he only took one of them, it was all he needed to take. He missed a penalty, but it did not matter, as Rogers settled it with his hat-trick in stoppage time, sending the Holt End into raptures. There was a bit of waiting after the full time whistle for confirmation of the results elsewhere, but once that filtered through, fans, players and even the coaching staff went nuts!

With time ticking down, Murray has gone down after a head clash... and with this all settled, the referee blows the final whistle!

IT IS A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HAT-TRICK FOR MORGAN ROGERS AND A TOP EIGHT SPOT FOR ASTON VILLA! A throw-in was sent back to Murray, who casually let it roll across his body. Watkins was out quickly on the youngster though, stealing it from him on the byline, before running back infield, where he set it for Rogers, who cooly settled himself before dragging into the bottom right corner.

Rogers rolls through midfield before playing it out to Bailey, who burst on at Taylor. He went inside and out, before bending a pass around him that was meant for Watkins, but it went just behind him. Tielemans chased it hard, forcing a throw out of McGregor.
