A late winner from Lautaro Martinez has helped Argentina to victory over Chile and a spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa America. Make sure you join me again in a couple of days for live coverage of the USA's clash with Panama. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from New Jersey this evening. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Argentina conclude their group stage campaign against Peru in Miami next Saturday, with the pressure off after already securing their quarter-final place. Expect Lionel Scaloni to make a couple of changes as such, whilst Chile need a victory over Canada in Orlando at the same time to join their neighbours in the last eight.
A brave effort from Chile, but then again, you wouldn't expect anything less from them. They came with the intention of disrupting their rivals with a disciplined mid block, restricting space in the middle of the park for the likes of Fernandez, De Paul, and of course Messi, and it proved effective for around 80 minutes. Ricardo Gareca's men even pushed for a late winner of their own, only to be denied twice by Martinez following shots from Echeverria. The late sucker punch will be hurt, but there was some real fight from this Chilean side to keep Argentina at bay for such a long period.
Once again, it wasn't easy for the world champions. They were forced into a dogfight by Chile tonight, and it looked as if they would be forced to settle for a point with the staunchness of the opposition defence. Argentina dominated over 60% of the possession and had 22 shots at goal, knocking on the door all night. Lautaro Martinez's late winner finally lifted their frustration though, securing the three points, and extending their unbeaten run against Chile to seven. Lionel Scaloni would have been expecting a difficult challenge, but will be relieved his men got over the line. It hasn't been all brilliance from the current world and defending South American champions at this tournament thus far, but they've kept two clean sheets, and are finding ways to win.
Fulltime in New Jersey and Argentina have wrapped up top spot in Group A and a place in the quarter-finals, with a dramatic late victory over Chile. They dominated the contest for long stages but weren't able to find a breakthrough until substitute Lautaro Martinez popped up with the winner two minutes from the end of normal time. Chile now have it all to play for against Canada in their final group match, whilst the pressure is off for Argentina after sealing their place in the knockout stage with a match to spare.
90+5'
BIG CHANCE! Nunez gives the ball away on halfway, and Di Maria is quick to pounce on the counter. He races in-behind with no one back and the Chilean defence exposed, before laying it off for Lautaro Martinez to tap home in front of goal. The latter sees his effort miraculously blocked by Bravo though, and the keeper somehow manages to turn it behind for a corner. Argentina take their time with the resulting set-piece though, and that will be that.
90+4'
Nunez stands over the free kick for Chile here, before lifting it towards the right-hand side of the box. It's headed clear by Argentina though, and Acuna loses it away over the sideline. Throw for Chile on the right, and they continue to push for a very late moment of magic.
90+2'
Chile pinch back possession in midfield and come forward again. Echeverria holds up play in the middle of the park, before linking up with Munoz. The latter attempts to drive forward, but he's pulled down by a defender and Chile win a free kick in the centre of the opposition half.
