Argentina show no signs of complacency or slowing down as they are on a streak of seven consecutive international victories, five of which were clean sheets. This winning run began soon after their previous encounter with Peru, and they aim to maintain their dominance in this head-to-head series, having not lost to Peru since June 1997, with twelve victories and four draws.

Lopez throws long from the left, aiming for Guerrero, but Montiel rises to win the header. The ball deflects off Guerrero and goes out of play, allowing Argentina to regain possession.

A change at center back for Argentina as Lucas Martinez replaces Pezzella.

ARGENTINA TEAM NEWS: With the world champions already through to the knockouts, they've made several changes to their lineup. Martinez remains in goal, while Otamendi and Pezzella form the center-back pairing. Montiel and Tagliafico are assigned as fullbacks, ready to join the attack when needed. The midfield trio consists of Lo Celso, Paredes, and Palacios. Up front, Lautaro Martínez leads the attack, supported by Di Maria and Garnacho.

We're back underway for the second half. One change for Peru as Cartagena, who was on a yellow, going off for Castillo in midfield.

The match begins with Argentina kicking off, and we're underway here in Miami. They start by maintaining possession, carefully passing the ball around to settle into the game. Garnacho then makes an aggressive forward run, driving down the left flank and successfully winning a corner for his team. Di Maria's corner is cleared at the near post.

Lopez attempts a long pass to the right, aiming for Guerrero. However, he puts too much power behind the ball, sending it out of play. Guerrero tries to reach it but ultimately cannot prevent it from crossing the touchline.

Peru have done admirably to stifle Argentina's attacking prowess, maintaining a disciplined defensive shape that has frustrated their opponents. Despite their solid defensive efforts, Peru faces a must-win scenario, knowing that only a victory will keep their hopes alive for advancing in the tournament. A draw would not be sufficient, adding pressure on Peru to transition effectively from defense to attack and capitalize on any opportunities that arise.

Tagliafico pushes forward and delivers a pass to Garnacho on the left flank. Garnacho, showing initiative, cuts inside and takes a shot towards goal. However, Carzo reacts quickly and manages to block the shot, diverting it wide of the right post.

Sonne continues to impress on the right side, playing a solid game for Peru. Garnacho finds space once more on the left for Argentina and attempts to take on defenders, but Sonne demonstrates strength and successfully dispossesses him, regaining possession for Peru.

While VAR was checking the goal, Zambrano was to vocal to the referee in expressing his views and is booked for it. 

Di Maria elegantly weaves through defenders in the box, showcasing sublime ball control. His attempt to find Martinez at the edge of the box, however, is thwarted by a quick block from Zambrano.

Reigning Copa America champions Argentina secured their spot in the 2024 quarter-finals by defeating Chile on Tuesday, courtesy of a late goal from Lautaro Martinez. Having won their first two tournament matches without conceding a goal, Lionel Scaloni's team can now afford to rest players if they choose before facing the runners-up from Group B in the knockout stage.

Di Maria takes the resulting free kick and aims it towards the box, but his delivery lacks precision and goes straight into the hands of Gallese, the goalkeeper for Peru.

Peru need a victory to keep their hopes alive for advancing to the quarter-finals for the eleventh consecutive Copa America tournament, following a goalless draw with Chile and a defeat to Canada on Tuesday. Miguel Araujo’s red card in that match hampered their efforts, but they've faced challenges even at full strength, managing to score only once in their last four games.

SAVE! Enzo Fernandez receives an excellent pass inside the box from Martinez, but his shot is too straight, allowing the goalkeeper to make a crucial save and deny Argentina a scoring chance.

HOW HAS THAT NOT GONE IN? Rivera showcases brilliant footwork on the right flank before delivering a lofted cross. Franco Zanelatto meets the pass with a well-timed shot from around the penalty spot, but his effort strikes the inside of the left post and rebounds out on the opposite side, denying Peru a scoring opportunity in a moment of near-miss drama.

Hello everyone and welcome to Tribe's Copa America Matchday 3 LIVE coverage as Argentina take on Peru. I am Sanil Karan and I will be bringing you all the action as it unfolds. 

Di Maria locates Martinez inside the right side of the box following a swift counter-attack. Martinez attempts a low cross, but the ball strikes Castillo's hand. The referee promptly awards a penalty to Argentina for the handball offense. A little delay as VAR checks it but the decision stands.

Montiel wins a corner kick on the right side, and Di Maria delivers a low cross into the box. Garnacho misses connecting with the ball, but Tagliafico manages to tap it in from the left side of the box. However, the referee blows the whistle for a foul committed by Tagliafico's teammate Paredes inside the box, awarding a free kick to Peru.

Pena loses the ball on the right but asks for a throw even though the ball had gone out off him. He is booked for his complaints. 

Two Argentina changes. Gonzalez replaces Garnacho out wide while Fernandez comes on for Lo Celso in midfield. 

Three changes. For Argentina, Rodriguez and Carboni replace Di Maria and Paredes in midfield. For Peru, Cueva replaces Lopez in midfield.

OVER! Pena draws a foul against Martinez, earning Peru a free kick on the left side. Lopez delivers the ball towards the right of the box, where Zambrano manages to outmaneuver his marker and make contact with a header. Unfortunately, his attempt sails over the crossbar.

Peru earn a free kick on the right side, and Lopez delivers a cross into the box. Otamendi rises to clear the ball towards the left flank. Reyna collects the loose ball and sends a cross towards the right side of the box. Carzo manages to outmuscle Lautaro Martinez in the aerial duel and heads the ball across the goal, but the goalkeeper comes off his line to make a confident claim.

Paredes fouls Corzo after the ball had already gone out for a Peru corner and receives a yellow card from the referee for the challenge.

Peru make attacking changes in search of goals. Rivera and Lapadula are on for Flores and Guerrero. 

Another attacking Peruvian change as Zanelatto replaces Reyna who hasn't been able to get into the game today. 

Montiel shows skill in evading challenges on the right flank, which creates space for Garnacho on the left to make a forward move. However, their communication with Martinez breaks down, leading to a misunderstanding that results in them conceding possession and giving away a throw-in.

Peru enjoys a prolonged spell of possession, circulating the ball with precision. Yet, a momentary lapse sees Paredes intercept the ball, but his subsequent pass to Di Maria goes astray.

Reyna earns a throw-in on the right side after Otamendi clears the ball following his run, but Peru fails to capitalize on the opportunity. Lopez later moves towards the edge of the box and goes down, appealing for a free kick, but the referee instead penalizes him for a handball.

SAVE! Lo Celso earns a well-earned free kick against Carzo in the attacking third for Argentina. Paredes steps up to take the set piece and strikes it well towards the top left corner, but the goalkeeper makes a crucial save to deny Argentina a scoring opportunity.

MARTINEZ CONTINUES HIS GREAT FORM! Martinez initiates the attack with a precise forward pass before making a penetrating run into the penalty area. Di Maria delivers a well-timed return pass, and as the goalkeeper advances, Martinez executes a perfectly executed chip shot that arcs beautifully over the goalkeeper and rolls into the center of the goal, securing the lead for Argentina with a moment of sublime finishing.

Argentina lose possession in midfield, prompting Lopez to attempt a pass towards Flores. However, Palacios intercepts the ball before Flores can reach it, but Flores commits a reckless challenge on Palacios, resulting in a yellow card for the Peruvian midfielder.

Argentina showcase quick one-touch passing outside the box as they build up play. Eventually, Garnacho receives the ball on the left side and attempts to dribble into the box. However, Sonne defends effectively, managing to dispossess Garnacho and regain possession for his team.

MARTINEZ GETS ANOTHER! Corzo clears a long pass initially, but another long ball is played into the left side of the box. Martinez controls the ball adeptly and calmly lifts it over the onrushing goalkeeper, executing a skillful finish to score for Argentina. VAR does check it for Martinez's challenge on Corzo to win the ball but the contact was minimum. The goal stands. 

Paredes' touch in the attacking third moves the ball away from Guerrero, prompting Guerrero to attempt a sliding challenge that ends up being mistimed and reckless. As a result, the referee issues a yellow card to Guerrero for the foul.

Peru earn a free kick deep in the attacking third, and Lopez swings a delivery into the box from the left flank. Otamendi rises well to head the ball clear, denying Peru a scoring opportunity and helping Argentina maintain their defensive solidity.

Palacios spots Montiel making an overlapping run on the right and delivers a precise pass. Montiel initially manages to get past Callens, but the defender quickly recovers and wins the duel, regaining possession for his team.

PAREDES HAS MISSED IT! Paredes steps up to take the penalty but opts for power over accuracy, striking the ball against the right post. The ball rebounds back into play, and Peru swiftly clears it, denying Argentina the chance to capitalize on the penalty opportunity.

Castillo takes a shot from outside the box, but Montiel blocks it, sending the ball out for a corner from the right side. The corner kick is delivered into the box, but Argentina's defense rises to the occasion once more, heading the ball clear to diffuse the threat from Peru's set-piece opportunity.

Argentina struggle to establish control of the game as Paredes and Palacios work together in midfield. Palacios attempts to send a pass towards Di Maria on the right wing, but Callens intervenes and intercepts the ball, thwarting Argentina's attacking move.

Argentina earn a free kick on the right side, with Di Maria stepping up to take it. He curls the ball towards the far post, where the goalkeeper appears poised to collect it comfortably. However, a mishandled touch redirects the ball out towards the left side.

SAVE THEN WIDE! Montiel advances on the overlap down the right flank and delivers a low cross into the box. Lo Celso manages to reach the ball, but his shot lacks sufficient angle, allowing the goalkeeper to make a straightforward save with his feet. The rebound then falls to Garnacho, who attempts a shot but sends it high and wide of the right post, missing a promising opportunity for Argentina.

Argentina retain possession in the attacking third, but Castillo executes a well-timed challenge on Di Maria to regain the ball for Peru. However, Peru loses possession shortly after on the right side, allowing Argentina another opportunity to build their attack.

Pezzella intercepts a pass from Lopez, but the ball loops over him and falls behind. Rivera quickly pursues the loose ball, but Otamendi recovers in time to clear it away, averting the danger for Argentina.

Peru carelessly lose possession in their defensive third, allowing Di Maria to quickly release Martinez into the left side of the box. Martinez opens up his body and shoots towards the right, but the goalkeeper makes a solid save. However, the play is halted as Martinez is flagged offside.

Franco Zanelatto tries to find a teammate with a pass from outside the box, but Otamendi reacts swiftly, intercepting the pass and thwarting the attacking opportunity. His quick response prevents the intended play from developing further.

Argentina's performance was marked by their ability to adapt, making several changes to their lineup after already securing a place in the knockout stages. The team demonstrated cohesion and depth, with other players stepping up in Messi's absence to ensure a convincing victory. Martinez's clinical finishing proved decisive, underlining Argentina's proficiency even with key players rotated out, as they look ahead with confidence to the challenges in the upcoming stages of the Copa America.

Castillo attempts a long ball towards Lapadula on the right flank, but the pass is overhit, and Lapadula is unable to keep it in play, resulting in a turnover of possession for Peru.

Di Maria takes the corner from the right side, aiming towards the box. The goalkeeper moves to intercept but misses the ball entirely. Otamendi then leaps for a header, narrowly missing it amidst using Zambrano for leverage, causing the defender to fall and briefly clutch his neck. After a momentary stoppage, Zambrano recovers, and the game resumes.

SAVE! Paredes locates Di Maria on the right flank, with Montiel offering support on the overlap. Di Maria opts to cut inside and takes a shot at goal, but it lacks the necessary curl or power, making it an easy save for Gallese in goal.

Argentina, while already assured of qualification, have shown signs of being complacent in their approach. They struggled to assert dominance over Peru, finding it challenging to break through the well-organized Peruvian defense. Despite this, Argentina did manage to create a few half-decent scoring chances. However, they will need to elevate their performance in the second half, displaying more urgency and creativity in their attacking play to secure a win and maintain momentum heading into the knockout stages. Peru, meanwhile, will continue to rely on their defensive resilience while looking to exploit any openings to secure the crucial victory they desperately need.

OVER! Zanellato connects with Gianluca Lapadula, who attempts a left-footed shot from over 35 yards out, but his effort sails high over the crossbar.

It’s difficult to envision Peru overcoming the reigning world and South American champions. However, not all hope is lost, as Peru has won their final group match in two of the last three Copa Americas, including a victory over Brazil the last time the United States hosted the event in 2016.

Carboni embarks on a dynamic run down the left wing, reaching the byline. However, his cross lacks accuracy, sailing over his teammates in the box.

Aldo Corzo tugs at Garnacho's jersey on the right flank, impeding the attacker's progress as he attempts to advance forward. The referee promptly awards a free kick to Argentina for the foul committed by Corzo.

Tagliafico delivers a throw-in from the left near the center circle, finding Martinez. Cartagena, who is already on a yellow card, fouls Martinez with a challenge that could have warranted a second booking, but the referee decides to keep his cards in his pocket on this occasion, sparing Cartagena from further disciplinary action.

PERU TEAM NEWS: Following Araujo’s red card, the back three consists of Callens, Zambrano, and Corzo, with Polo and Lopez providing support as wingbacks. The midfield trio features Reyna, Cartagena, and Pena once again, while Guerrero and Flores lead the attack up front.

Montiel and Lo Celso exchange passes as they build up play. Lo Celso then attempts to locate Di Maria on the right side of the box with a through ball, but the pass reaches Di Maria when he is already in an offside position.

Carzo launches a long throw into the box, where it is headed clear by the defense but lands at the feet of Pena just outside the penalty area. Pena takes a shot, but it deflects off his own teammate, Guerrero, and rolls out towards the right side, denying Peru a chance to capitalize on the opportunity.

Despite missing the injured Lionel Messi, Argentina showcased their strength and determination, securing the top spot in Group A with a decisive victory over Peru, courtesy of Lautaro Martinez's brace. While Messi was benched due to hints of a thigh injury, Argentina displayed resilience and depth, maintaining control over the match and limiting Peru's opportunities to threaten Emiliano Martinez's goal.

Cueva's aggressive pressing on the left flank results in a foul as he pushes down Tagliafico, conceding a free kick to Argentina. 

Both teams are now out on the field. Kick-off will follow the national anthems. Don't go anywhere...

Otamendi's ambitious diagonal pass intended for Garnacho down the left flank goes astray, resulting in a turnover that gives Peru a chance to regain possession and quickly organize a counter-attack. 

WIDE! Di Maria continues to shine in the match, displaying skill as he twists and turns on the right flank before cutting inside. He spots Fernandez on the left side, who shifts onto his right foot and unleashes a shot towards goal. Unfortunately, Fernandez's effort drifts wide of the left post, missing a chance for Argentina to extend their lead.

Peru entered the match requiring a victory to keep their hopes alive for advancing to the knockout stage, but their defensive and cautious tactics ultimately proved ineffective. Their reluctance to take more proactive measures and pursue goals left them vulnerable, and they were ultimately punished for their defensive mindset.
