The USA have continued their dominance of the CONCACAF Nations League with a third title in it's third rendition. Make sure you join us again on Tribe over the rest of the March window for more international football from around the world. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from AT&T Stadium in Arlington tonight. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
These two nations can now look ahead to the upcoming Copa America, which is to be played back on American soil in June and July. The USA will face Colombia and Brazil prior to the tournament, whilst Mexico will face off against Uruguay and Brazil.
A very sour night for Mexico and their fans. After their convincing semi-final victory over Panama, they were way off the pace here, and failed to lift the intensity for the challenge of a final. El Tri were never quite able to gain a foothold in the match, and their midfield was overran through the middle of the park. The high press out of possession did cause some problems and force some errors out of the USA defence, but they were never able to maintain the effort, and gave way quite easily in the second half. In truth Adams' goal moments before the break proved the sucker punch, and El Tri were never able to muster a response in the pressure of a continental final. It's a result that will heap the pressure on coach Jaime Lozano, and the fans certainly showed their frustration for his team's efforts when play was halted late on tonight. He'll do well to keep his job heading into the Copa America and it appears as if more upheaval is coming for El Tri.
It was a final of few chances, but the USA certainly made their wealth of possession and territory count, with two stunning strikes. Tyler Adams goal just before the break will live long in the memory as one of the best scored in CONCACAF competition, whilst Gio Reyna added the nail in the coffin with a half-volley effort from the top of the box at the start of the second half. They were made to sweat slightly when the referee awarded a penalty in favour of Mexico late on, but it was overturned by the VAR, and the USA were able to see it out to continue their dominance in this competition.
Fulltime in Arlington and the USA make it a three-peat of CONCACAF Nations League titles with a convincing victory over Mexico. A pair of stunning goals from Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna have proven the difference, with Greg Berhalter's side dominating throughout. Ugly scenes from Mexican fans in the stands have marred the closing stages of this final, but that shouldn't take away from this American side. They dictated and controlled play with the majority of possession throughout, showing patience on the ball and a willingness to play out from the back. Mexico tested them with the high press at times, but as the match progressed and El Tri's energy fell away, they were able to do it comfortably.
90+8'
Play resumes again with a Mexican throw deep inside their own half, and it's sent forward up towards halfway. Gimenez can't latch onto it again though, and Richards is present to hack away.
Greg Berhalter and Tim Ream asking for the match to be called off in favour of the USA now, with the racist chants continuing from Mexican fans. This isn't the way anyone would have liked the night to end.
90+6'
Orteaga sends a long ball forward for Gimenez to chase up the middle, but the offside flag goes up and the USA gets a free kick. Turner sends it long down the right flank, to more loud racist chants from the Mexican fans. Play will come to a halt again!
90+5'
The ball bounces around in midfield as this final wears down. Mexico get hold of it and Lozano looks to take off on a late foray down the right. He can't get around Robinson though and the USA clear away.
