Nothing doing from the Aston Villa corner as the resultant inswinging delivery is headed away. 

CHANCE! Really good work from Sadlier, who latches onto a raking diagonal towards the Wycombe left then turns Nedeljkovic inside and out as he approaches the edge of the box. The experienced wide man works space to shoot from a tight angle, but Gauci gets down smartly to make a low save at his near post.

You wonder whether that goal will help Aston Villa take the shackles off and look to kill this game off sooner rather than later. You get the sense that a second would kill off their lower-league opposition, who have to desperately find some attacking impetus from somewhere.

A final roll of the dice for Wycombe as Luke Leahy replaces Matt Butcher and takes the captain's armband. 

A sloppy giveaway from Barkley inside his own half gives Lubala the opportunity to drive forward into the final third. He tries to angle a ball in-behind for Wheeler to race onto, but Maatsen uses all of his defensive nous to position himself between man and ball and shepherd it behind for a goal-kick. 

A flurry of changes, with both teams freshening things up. First up, Aston Villa - on come teenager Aidan Borland and first team regular Jacob Ramsey, to replace Amadou Onana - the only member of tonight's XI to have started for Villa in the Premier League at the weekend - and Leon Bailey. Wycombe respond by making four changes, sending on Fred Onyedinma, Garath McCleary, Richard Kone and Cameron Humphreys. 

Credit to Wycombe, who have given their all but look to be on their way out of the Carabao Cup, not for a lack of trying. It hasn't been the 137th birthday celebration the club will have hoped for, but they certainly haven't embarrassed themselves tonight. 

It's all very frantic here in Buckinghamshire. Moments after Onana went down inside the box to no avail, Wycombe break down the right touchline as a forward ball gives Lubala something to chase. He does well to get there surges inside and ignores the options to his left. Instead, he shoots from outside the area but hits his effort straight down the throat of Gauci in the Aston Villa goal. 

Good evening, and welcome to Tribe's live coverage of this Carabao Cup third round tie between League One Wycombe Wanderers and Premier League heavyweights Aston Villa. My name is James Messenger, and I'll be guiding you through all the action as it happens from Adams Park. 

CHANCE! Wycombe are really coming on strong now! Excellent hold-up play from Kone to start, then Onyedinma is brought into play and bursts forward down the left touchline. His cross isn't a bad one either, and Bogarde is forced to head it behind for a corner.

CHANCE! What was I just saying?! Suddenly, a searching ball down the right channel is brought under control by Wheeler, who finds himself the wrong side of Maatsen momentarily. There's some indecision between the Villa left-back and the man inside him, Swinkels, as Wheeler volleys the ball inside to Lubula with his back to goal. The Wycombe forward turns and shoots, but he doesn't catch his effort cleanly and it bounces into the gloves of Gauci. 

CHANCE! Villa defender Swinkels tries to make a name for himself by firing goalwards from the best part of 25 yards out. The Wycombe jeers which greet the shot tell you everything you need to know about that effort - a long way over the bar!

Another hairy moment at the back for Villa. Playing the ball around their defensive third, Gauci has to adjust quickly to get his toe to a wayward ball across the face of his own box, then his attempted pass towards Maatsen evades the former Chelsea man and bounces out for a throw-in. The left-back is quick to raise the hand of apology. 

A chance to create an overlap down the right for Wycombe, but Pattenden underhits his lay-off and Maatsen reacts quickly to step in and recover possession. More than anything else, you sense that Matt Bloomfield will be frustrated by how his players have turned the ball over a little cheaply at times tonight. 

Now things start to get really interesting in the Carabao Cup, with many of the Premier League big boys entering the fray! That's not to say we haven't already had our fair share of drama, but there will be some teams out to cause an upset over the next few days, including at a near-sold-out Adams Park. Tonight, Wycombe Wanderers Football Club celebrates its 137th birthday - and what a way to mark the occasion a win tonight would be. Aston Villa are fighting on multiple fronts, both domestically and in Europe, so it's little surprise to see Unai Emery shuffling the pack. Villa's fixture schedule is more intense that they've been used to for many a season, but tonight their squad depth will really be put to the test. Four successive wins in all competitions signals a fine vein of form for Villa, who will be keen to avoid an early-round exit from this competition. Wycombe are also unbeaten in five games in all competitions coming into this one, so it should be a really intriguing match-up. 

A really good spell of possession for Villa here. The home side are chasing shadows a little bit - you wonder how that will impact their energy reserves as we edge towards the final quarter. 

NO MISTAKE FROM THE SPOT! He's been in fine form in the Premier League, and now Jhon Duran adds a Carabao Cup goal to his tally! The big striker steps up from 12 yards out, sends the Wycombe goalkeeper the wrong way and guides his penalty into the bottom right corner. That's surely enough to book Aston Villa's spot in Round 4!

Kone holds the ball up well down the Wycombe left then tries to bring Onyedinma into play. The tricky wide man looks to win a corner for his side, but he only manages to bamboozle himself with some quick feet, the ball escapes his grasp and goes behind for a goal-kick!

DEADLOCK BROKEN AT ADAMS PARK! Aston Villa's stand-in captain for the night produces a telling contribution, and the Premier League side hit the front! Young drives beyond his man down the left flank then delivers a low cross. It skews up off the boot of Low near the edge of the six-yard box and drops invitingly for Emi Buendia, who steers a looping header into the bottom right corner from eight yards out. Ravizzoli tried to get across, but he couldn't quite do enough. 

CHANCE! Another half-opening for Wycombe! A really well-worked set-piece leads to a sight of goal for Wheeler as the Chairboys' floated free-kick picks him out around the back of the main huddle of players inside the box. He tries to pull off an audacious volley but doesn't connect cleanly and fires his effort into the ground and straight at Gauci. 

One teenager for another as Aston Villa make a late change. Off goes Kadan Young, to be replaced by Ben Broggio. 

KICK-OFF! No changes to either XI, so off we go again! 

The first card of the night, and Bakinson can have few complaints. After a quick Villa counter, Buendia is found in the middle of the park with options right and left, but the attention of the Wycombe man prevents the Argentine from getting his pass away. 

A couple of players down for Villa in a matter of seconds. Duran goes to ground after an innocuous collision with Scowen, then Buendia stops in his tracks after having his foot trodden on. The referee spots it, so the free-kick goes the way of the visitors. 

ONE BACK FOR THE HOSTS! The look on Unai Emery's face says it all. Having been guilty of a misplaced pass which almost led to Richard Kone scoring moments earlier, Bogarde is dispossessed by the Wycombe forward inside his own penalty area. With plenty still to do, Kone takes aim from the angle and drills his shot beyond Gauci at his near post, finding the far corner. Surely just a consolation at this stage, but you never know...

CHANCE! Gauci really does get away with one here! A long throw-in from the left should be dealt with fairly easily, but the debutant goalkeeper completely loses the flight of the ball and overruns it, letting the ball squirm through his grasp. Thankfully, there are team-mates behind him to put the ball out for a corner, sparing any further blushes.

CHANCE! More excellent work from Villa, who have settled into their rhythm really quickly here at Adams Park. Barkley slices the Wycombe defence open with a lovely forward ball which finds Duran, who is forced wider than he might've liked inside the penalty area. There are defenders close to the in-form striker, who is forced to take aim from the angle and settle for a corner.

GOOD SAVE! McCleary goes close again! This time the ball comes in from the right and the Wycombe substitute rises highest to nod it goalwards. Credit to Gauci, who is forced to scramble across quickly and paw the ball away to safety. 

A couple of crosses from the flanks for Wycombe, who are looking pretty lively on the front foot when given the opportunity. Sadlier swings a low ball into the mix from the left, but Bogarde does just enough to deal with the threat and Villa clear the danger. 

A dangerous free-kick from the Wycombe left is swung into the mix, but Gauci claims it well in the centre of his box. The Aston Villa debutant looks to quickly release Duran at the other end, but Ravizzoli reads the danger and saunters well out of his penalty area to nod the ball out of harm's way. 

CLOSE! So nearly a late consolation for the hosts! Ravizzoli launches one long from inside his own penalty area and the bouncing ball is brought down by McClearly. He holds off his man and turns the ball goalwards, but his effort bounces just beyond the left-hand post.

... And breathe! Aston Villa are through to Round 4!

It's all a little passive from both sides as we come towards the final 15 minutes. At some point Wycombe will have to commit more bodies forward, and you sense that'll be when this game really opens up. For now, it's all a little cagey and tense.

Pretty even going as we approach the midway point of the first half. Wycombe have matched their Premier League opponents well, but you get the feeling that there are gaps to be exploited if Villa can find the right pass. It's the visitors controlling the ball at the moment. 

The home side look for the direct approach again, sending a long, searching pass up towards Humphreys. A nice first touch and he might've had a sight of goal, but the Wycombe midfielder can't reel the ball in and the visitors get back quickly to regain possession. 

Villa are pressed high by the home side as they look to play their way out from the back, and possession is eventually conceded by Buendia. The former Norwich City man looked to have been met by a strong but fair foot in, and although he looks hopefully towards the referee, his free-kick appeal is ignored.

WYCOMBE TEAM NEWS: The hosts are much-changed following their 2-1 win at home to Cambridge United at the weekend. Argentine goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli, defender Joe Low and midfielder Josh Scowen are the three who keep their place in the Chairboys' starting XI. As a result of starting tonight, Scowen will make his 500th career appearance.

You get the feeling that Wycombe are slowly warming to the task at hand. Villa came out of the blocks firing and could - perhaps should - be ahead in this tie, but they haven't been wholly convincing at the back thus far, and there's a sense that the Chairboys could really cause some problems for their Premier League opponents. 

A goalless, rather drab first half comes to a close at Adams Park. These two have matched each other well for large parts, which is a credit to the way League One Wycombe have set themselves up tonight. A much-changed Aston Villa XI have been frustrated in the final third and restricted to very few chances, the best of which fell to the in-form Jhon Duran inside the opening 40 seconds of the game. At the other end, Wycombe have yet to carve a clear-cut opening but have at least worked debutant Joe Gauci in the Villa goal. At this stage, there's no telling who'll step things up after the break and book their place in Round 4.

CHANCE! In almost identical fashion to the start of the first half, a decent opening is created - this time for the hosts! After good work down the right, the ball is pulled back towards the edge of the box for Butcher. He goes for placement rather than power, and his shot takes a big deflection which takes it just beyond the right-hand post.

PENALTY GIVEN! Duran is found in-behind after a quick give-and-go, Ravizzoli comes out of his goal and the Villa striker goes to ground under pressure from goalkeeper and defender. Replays suggest there wasn't an awful lot of contact and the forward caught his own heel more than anything else as he looked to round the Wycombe shot-stopper, but the referee points to the spot. 

GOOD CHANCE! A big opportunity spurned by the visitors inside the opening 40 seconds! Bailey cuts infield from the right then slides a beautiful ball between two of the Wycombe backline to find Duran in-behind. He enters the box and goes for placement rather than power, sliding his effort past Ravizzoli but just beyond the left-hand post.

The hosts look to move the ball quickly down the right channel, but as soon as Lubula touches the ball, the offside flag is raised. That's a few times they've been thwarted by the linesman in the opening knockings of this cup tie. 

A free-kick near halfway provides the opportunity for Wycombe to send bodies forward from the back, but the floated delivery is poor and Gauci saunters out of his six-yard box to claim. 

KICK-OFF! Aston Villa get things underway!

ASTON VILLA TEAM NEWS: Amadou Onana is the only survivor from Villa's 3-1 Premier League win against Wolves over the weekend, with boss Unai Emery opting to make near-wholesale changes. There's still plenty of talent to call upon, however, with the likes of Jhon Duran - who has scored four goals as a substitute in five Premier League appearances this season - and Ian Maatsen - a UEFA Champions League finalist last season with Borussia Dortmund - among those who come into the side.

A hefty aerial duel as the sizeable Duran leaves Pattenden in a heap on the floor near the corner of the Wycombe box. Nothing much in the challenge itself, but with it being a potential head injury, the referee stops play.

BLOCKED! After a threatening Wycombe free-kick comes to nothing, Villa counter-attack at pace as Onana and Buendia combine to find the ever-willing Bailey down the right touchline. He makes it all the way to the byline and tries to produce something for his side, but the hosts are back quickly and in numbers. Instead, Bailey settles for a corner.

A grandstand finish at Adams Park, but it's Aston Villa who book their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup. Their goals came from Emi Buendia and the in-form Jhon Duran, who took advantage of a contentious penalty call to double the visitors' lead from 12 yards out with five minutes to go. Wycombe performed admirably and deserved a goal, and it came with virtually the last kick of the game as substitute Richard Kone fired beyond Joe Gauci to deny the Villa goalkeeper a debut clean sheet. Still, it's a case of job done for Unai Emery's side, who move a step closer to Wembley. 

Another Villa debutant, Young, bursts away from Pattenden down the left flank then sends a low cross into the area. It finds Buendia at the near post and he tries to dink it further into the box, but there's no-one close enough to attack the cross and Wycombe head the ball away.

Two more changes for Aston Villa as we tick into stoppage time. Travis Patterson and Jamaldeen Jimoh are on to replace Ian Maatsen and Emi Buendia, who set Villa on their way tonight.

CHANCE! Wycombe's best moment of the night! It's the hosts' first really incisive piece of forward play too, as Kone plays the ball wide left towards Humphreys. His low cross goes through the legs of a Villa defender and runs through for the unmarked McCleary, who gets his feet in a tangle and can't find a shot from all of 10 yards out as the ball strikes his trailing leg. 

CHANCE! Out of nowhere, Swinkels plays an inviting ball between the lines and picks out the onrushing Duran in-behind. The striker's first touch takes him round Ravizzoli, who came a long way out of his goal, but the angle is really tight and he can't hit the target on the run. Instead, his effort goes high over the Wycombe bar.
