That wraps up our coverage of this A League Men's clash between Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United. We will have more A League action coming your way tomorrow, with Melbourne Victory hosting Perth Glory and Central Coast Mariners facing off against Sydney. In the meantime, thanks for joining me, Zak Brown on Tribe!
Things have gone from bad to worse for Newcastle Jets, who have now lost their last four league matches in a row and remain near the foot of the A League ladder. A place in the top six is looking increasingly unlikely for The Jets, who need to improve sharply. Meanwhile, Adelaide United climb up into second spot, four points behind league leaders Auckland FC who boast a perfect record to their opening six games. Next up for The Jets is a lengthy trip to face Perth Glory, in what will be a crucial bottom half clash. As for Adelaide, they will put their unbeaten record on the line against current champions Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.
A gritty second half performance from Adelaide United maintains their unbeaten start to the season! It's the first clean sheet of the campaign for Adelaide too, who had to play with ten men after Ben Folami was sent off approaching the midway stage of the second half. After winning a foul against Phillip Cancar, Folami lost his cool for a brief second and made contact with his hand against Cancar's face. VAR intervened and Folami saw red, leaving his Adelaide team potentially in the lurk with a lot of time still left to play. Newcastle Jets huffed and puffed, but they could not find a way to break through a stubborn Adelaide defence. The best chance for The Jets fell to Lachlan Rose, whose shot from six yards out in first half stoppage time crashed against the crossbar. Otherwise, Adelaide controlled the majority of the game and deserved the win.
90+6'
The ball is hoofed clear by Adelaide, leaving Jets' goalkeeper Ryan Scott to collect the loose ball midway inside his own half. The ball goes into the Adelaide penalty area once more, but the visitors survive again, as Austin Ayoubi hooks the ball clear in what should be the final act of this match...
90+5'
Eli Adams curls a left-footed cross from the right wing towards the far post, where team-mate Daniel Wilmering is lurking. But the Adelaide defence stand firm yet again to make the block!
90+3'
Newcastle hurriedly work the ball from back to front and almost create a goalscoring opportunity. Ben Gibson goes down in the area after trying to get a shot away, which is parried by James Delianov. Meanwhile, play continues inside the Adelaide half.
90+3'
Kosta Grozos does well to nick a throw-in for his Jets side against Ryan White, who was looking to hold the ball in the corner, deep inside Newcastle territory.
90+2'
The Jets bide their time in attack, before Lachlan Bayliss cuts inside and whips in a cross from the left. The cross is aimed towards Eli Adams at the far post, but it's headed away strongly by an Adelaide defender.
