Brisbane's winless run continues at the Jets expense, thanks to a second half strike from substitute Lachlan Rose. Make sure you join us again on Tribe tomorrow night for more A-League action between Sydney and Perth. It's been a pleasure bringing you this one from Suncorp Stadium. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Next up for Brisbane is a trip to Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Saturday, where they'll start as big underdogs. The Jets meanwhile have some momentum, and will be hoping to record a first home win of the season when they welcome Macarthur on Sunday evening.
Another disasterous result for Brisbane, in a game they would have targeted to end their winless duck. They came out hard at their opponents in the second half, and created a number of big opportunities to break the deadlock, including striking the woowdwork. The Roar failed to take their chances though, and were made to pay down the other end. It's a result that will heap further pressure on Ruben Zadkovich, and that makes it 14 games without a win in the competition, and eight home defeats in a row (an A-League record), as the Roar continue to sink to new lows.
That's four points in two games for the Jets, and a good string of results as they slowly climb back into the top six mix. Robert Stanton's side didn't make the same mistake they made against Sydney on the weekend, managing the game well after scoring with sixteen minutes to play, and holding out to hold on for a valuable three points. They had the better of the game in the first half, striking the woodwork twice, before the roles reversed in the second. Despite being under the pump, it was Aquilina and Rose who combined to edge the Jets ahead against the run of play, shopwing a ruthless edge where their opponents didn't. That will give them plenty of confidence moving forward, and Newcastle move up to double digits on the points tally for the season, still unbeaten in 2025.
Fulltime at Suncorp Stadium and the Newcastle Jets have recorded their third win of the season with a one-goal victory over the Brisbane Roar. The hosts looked the better side for stages of that second half, but they failed to make their chances count, and Lachlan Rose scored the decisive goal against the run of play for the Jets. It's a result that keeps Brisbane winless this season, and the pressure will build on Ruben Zadkovich as they set the record for the most consecutive home defeats in A-League history.
90+3'
Rose wins the ball again and runs straight for the corner flag to run some more seconds down. It looks as though Brisbane will finish with a goal kick.
90+2'
Scott takes his time with the goal kick, before launching the ball long over halfway. It bounces all the way through for Rose, who looks up and takes aim at goal from long range with the keeper off his line. He fails to take advantage though, and the substitute clips his right-footed effort well wide of the left post for a goal kick.
90+1'
Just three minutes of added time, but Brisbane continue to push. Struick wins another corner down the left this time, and Jelacic rushes over to take once more. His delivery has too much on it this time though, and flies straight over the byline for a goal kick. Horrible from Jelacic.
