Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Craig Goodwin’s wonderful second-half strike propelled Australia to a much-needed win over China in Tony Popovic’s first match in charge; I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Both are back in action on Tuesday as Australia travel to Japan for a crucial clash in their next qualifying game. China host Indonesia on the same day in their next outing.
China, despite remaining bottom of Group C having lost all three games so far, really had Australia on the ropes for a while. Defensively excellent for most of the first half, conceding before half-time will have really stalled their momentum. The goal they went behind to was simply sublime and despite tiring late on, they gave Australia a few scares in chasing a leveller in Adelaide.
An encouraging first win for new Australia Head Coach, Tony Popovic, then. He saw a composed performance from Australia, despite falling behind with Goodwin stepping up and wresting the match their way from midfield. Souttar marshalled the defence well whilst the substitutes all had positive impacts. A goal for Velupillay on his Australia debut is a moment he'll not forget!
AUSTRALIA RALLY TO GET THE WIN - A huge victory for The Socceroo's in Adelaide as they come from behind to defeat a spirited China! Having conceded first to Xie's clinically taken strike, Australia hauled themselves level before the break when Miller thumped a header home from Goodwin's free kick. Goodwin then turned scorer, smashing a wonderful long-range hit into the top left-hand-corner to give Australia the advantage. Substitute, Velupillay then wrapped it up with a poacher's third in injury time to give Australia their first win in Group C!

VELUPILLAY SEALS THE WIN - Bos, slid in on the overlap by McGree, cuts the ball back across the box dangerously. Yang can't clear it properly, sending it straight to the feet of O'Neill, on the left of the six-yard line. His first-time effort is heroically blocked by Hu but the ball pops up favourably for Velupillay to tuck the rebound expertly into the top right-hand corner from close range! Australia's substitutes making an impact.
