The Socceroos have booked their spot in the third round of AFC World Cup qualifying with a much-improved performance against Lebanon. Make sure you join us again as the March international window comes to a close tomorrow morning with a number of intriguing games. It's been a pleasure bringing you all thr action from Canberra tonight. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Both nations return to action in the June window, when the second round of qualifying resumes for it's final two matchdays. The Socceroos can take off their foot off the gas knowing they've already qualified, but will still be expected to turn in dominant performances with a trip to Bangladesh and a home fixture with Palestine. Meanwhile, it's a critical window for Lebanon, who require two wins from their two matches against the same opposition to sneak through to the next stage.
Not as pretty for Lebanon tonight, who again held tough through the first half, but completely went off the boil as the efforts of their Australian trip caught up with them. They tried to play with a little more aggression tonight, coming out of their shells and pushing forward more often. Aside from Matar's shot that struck the crossbar at the start of the second half, they struggled to create any chances of note though. Their defence was also well-organised in patches, holding out resolutely with a strong block and high line. Such work rate off the ball, and the two quick Australian goals at the start of the second stanza killed them though, and the Cedars lost their legs completely as the match progressed. It's a result that sees them still awaiting a first win in World Cup qualifying, and the Cedars now need maximum points from their final two matches to sneak past Palestine and into the next round.
Fulltime in Canberra and the Socceroos have secured qualification for the third round of AFC World Cup qualifying with a five-goal drubbing of Lebanon. A brace and a brilliant performance from Craig Goodwin will take the headlines, whilst John Iredale and Kusini Yengi also notched their first international goals in a much improved Australian display. At halftime it looked like a repeat effort of the contest in Sydney, with the Socceroos largely underwhelming again in the opening stanza. Graham Arnold got his men humming straight out of the sheds though, and two goals in the space of sixty seconds at the start of the second half killed off the contest and secured qualification. They showed far more ruthlessness in front of goal as Lebanon tired, and really rammed home the advantage their possession and territory deserved. Also pleasing for Arnold will be the way his youngsters impacted the contest off the bench, with Iredale and Yazbek bringing plenty of tempo and aggression, and combining for the fourth goal. Overall, a much better Socceroos performance, and they'll feel they've made up for that drab Sydney performance with a superb second half in front of a record Canberra crowd.

Out comes a late yellow card for Silvera, who takes out Matar whilst chasing a long ball towards the top of the box.

90+4'
Play resumes with the Australian throw on the left wing, and it's sent long into the middle for Iredale to chase. The ball bounces just behind him though and Lebanon manage to scurry away. The Cedars clear it long downfield, and Deng settles for a throw deep inside his own half.
90+3'
The physios are out to treat the right leg of Matar, and he looks good to continue after a short stoppage.
