The Socceroos really needed to get their campaign off to a good start and they have failed to do so tonight! They looked disjointed at times and that is a by product of the team coming together late before the match. The red card of Yengi with the high boot will be a talking point! It was careless and that really did put Australia under pressure. The longer the game went without a goal, the more the pressure piled on the home side and they weren't able to hold out a stoic Bahrain side, who walk away with the valuable points. They will have to pick themselves up quickly as they head to Indonesia next week for their next clash.
Bahrain were simply better than Australia tonight. They came to the Gold Coast with a solid game play of trying to play through the middle of the park, while releasing speed along the edges. That was patched with plenty behind the ball on defence and they were able to sneak one past Ryan late and hold on for the victory! Benaddi was the stonewall in defence while Al-Khulasi was excellent on the overlapping attacks and ultimately set up the winner for his side! It was their first goal against Australia and their first win! Bahrain will head home to take on Japan in a few days time.

Lutfalla takes all the time he needs on the goal kick from the back as time ticks over the seven minute mark into added time. He sends it forward and into touch up the right edge. Irankunda throws it back into play. Australia control a messy ball at the edge of the box! Dropped back for O'Neill who chips it over the top but it is too far and over the byline! BAHRAIN HANG ON FOR A FAMOUS WIN!

The Australians give chase on everything out there! Little flick by Duke on the right edge outside the box looking for Mabil back on the inside! He goes down in the tackle and gets the free kick on the edge of the penalty area!
