The Wellington Phoenix have opened their A-League Women's season with consecutive defeats. Make sure you switch over for live coverage of the men's team, who have just kicked off away at the Mariners. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from Porirua Park this afternoon. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
A tough result for the Phoenix on home soil, who will feel they've let points slip this afternoon. They bossed close to 70% of the possession throughout, and dictated the pace and tempo of the game through the midfield of Longo, McCutcheon, and Whinham. Paul Temple's side were arguably slow to start, and failed to create many chances in the first stanza. Chasing the game, they created a number of big opportunities in the second though, and if not for the hands of James, Grace Jale should've seen both of her headers hit the back of the net. With two away games to come, they've made a stuttering start to the campaign, and are set to be tested heavily over the next few weeks. Next up is a trip to the Newcastle Jets next Sunday afternoon.
Fulltime in Porirua and Canberra United have held on to defeat the Wellington Phoenix and make it two wins from two to start the new season. One goal from Michelle Heyman inside the first eleven minutes proved the difference, scoring her 100th goal for Canberra to help the capital club to their first win on NZ soil. The Phoenix pressed hard in the second half to get back into it, but James made a number of strong saves in goal, and they couldn't quite find the back of the net. Paul Temple's side have lost their first two in contrast, and Wellington have lost just their second game ever in Porirua.
90+8'
James eventually gets back to her feet, and launches the long ball away over halfway. It comes back for Jaber to reset, and Longo sends it forward for Fergusson on halfway. The striker can't hold it up though, and Nathan swipes it off her opponent before running to the corner.
90+7'
Longo gets the ball under control in midfield, before floating a long ball over the top. Fergusson gives chase, and almost latches onto the ball inside the box, only to lose control with a slip in front of goal. She collects James in the follow-through and the substitute will pick up a yellow as the keeper recieves treatment.

Injury Break
90+4'
Christopherson breaks away on the counter down the left flank, before winning a free kick with a heavy shove from Jaber. The defender shows her frustration in the aftermath, and Canberra play it short before taking the ball towards the corner flag and winning a throw.
90+3'
BIG CHANCE! What a save! Longo comes across to take the corner on the right, and whips it into the back post. Jale throws her head at it and directs the ball towards the top left corner, but James' does brilliantly to get up and tip over with a one-handed reaction stop.
