That wraps up our coverage of this A League Men's clash between Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne City. Head over to coverage of Central Coast Mariners vs Western United right now if you are hungry for more A League action. In the meantime, thanks for joining me, Zak Brown on Tribe!
This result leaves Wellington Phoenix a long way from the play-off spots, needing to win the vast majority of their remaining eight games. A trip to Western United faces Wellington Phoenix next up. As for Melbourne City, this evening's win takes them up to second place on the A League ladder, ahead of Adelaide United on goal difference. All eyes will be on their top-of-the-table clash with Auckland FC tomorrow. City will return home to face Macarthur FC next up.
The full-time whistle goes at Sky Stadium and Melbourne City take all three points, thanks to a single goal coming from Marco Tilio early in the second half. It was an unforced error from Wellington Phoenix that led to the game's only goal and Tilio took full advantage, sliding the ball past Alby Kelly-Heald from twelve yards out. The Nix continued to huff and puff throughout the second half looking for an equaliser and almost squared the game thanks to a Corban Piper header, but Patrick Beach produced a contender for 'save of the season' to deny Piper at close range. Melbourne City thought the result was well and truly sealed in second half stoppage time thanks to an own goal by Isaac Hughes, but the goal was chalked off due to an offside earlier in the play. Cue a frantic final few minutes, where The Nix threw everything they had at Melbourne City, but the visitors held out to take the win.

As Wellington Phoenix desperately try to muster up one final scoring opportunity, the ball falls to Luke Brooke-Smith on the left edge of the penalty area. He drifts inside, but his shot is timid and Patrick Beach can make an easy save. That looks to be the final chance of the game, despite a late charge from the hosts...
90+6'
Isaac Hughes drives his team forward down the right, but the ball deflects out of play for a Phoenix throw-in midway inside Melbourne's half. The Nix might have one more opportunity to launch the ball into the box...
90+3'
DISALLOWED! Lawrence Wong weaves past the challenges of Matthew Sheridan and Scott Wootton, narrowly keeping the ball in play at the byline. He then cuts the ball back across the face of goal, where it takes an unfortunate deflection off Isaac Hughes and into the goal. However, a VAR review spots an offside earlier in the play and the goal is chalked out! Phoenix maintain a glimmer of hope with just a few minutes remaining!
90+2'
Ben Mazzeo forces Alby Kelly-Heald into a save, after placing a left-footed shot from the edge of the area towards the bottom corner. Melbourne City earn a corner and they take their time before restarting play.
90+1'
CLOSE! Ben Mazzeo finds fellow substitute Harry Politidis with a flicked pass inside the Phoenix penalty area. But Politidis snatches at his shot from a narrow angle to the left of goal and the ball rolls wide of the far post.
