That wraps up our coverage of this A League Men's clash between Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar. Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory will be kicking off shortly, if you are in the mood for more A League action. In the meantime, thanks for joining me, Zak Brown on Tribe!
Following this result, Brisbane Roar head into a bye next weekend. They will return to action with a home clash against Western Sydney Wanderers, but they will still be rooted to the bottom of the table. As for Sydney FC, they travel to face Melbourne Victory next weekend in a crucial match in the battle for a top six place.
It was an improved performance from Sydney FC in the second half, but they knew that they had to score next with the half-time score at 1-3. The introduction of Jordan Courtney-Perkins proved to be a smart change from Ufuk Talay, as he helped himself to a goal as well as shoring up the defensive efforts on their left side, which was exposed far too easily by Brisbane in the first half. However, striker Patryk Klimala was ineffective today and Joe Lolley struggled at times to find space in more dangerous attacking positions.
A SEVEN GOAL THRILLER COMES TO AN END AND BRISBANE ROAR HAVE THEIR FIRST VICTORY OF THE CAMPAIGN! The relief throughout the Roar squad is palpable, who celebrate their first three points of the season at the thirteenth attempt. The fourth Brisbane goal, which came from Lucas Herrington in the 71st minute, really put some broad daylight between the two sides. Sydney FC substitutes Tiago Quintal and Jordan Courtney-Perkins set up a grandstand finish with goals in the 84th and 87th minute, but The Roar showed their mettle to hold on and take all three points back up the east coast.
90+7'
There is an almighty scramble inside the box following Joe Lolley's cross from deep on the right. Macklin Freke gets contact to the ball with his glove, before taking heavy contact from Jaushua Sotirio. The referee awards a free kick to Brisbane Roar and that might just see them over the line...
90+6'
Jacob Brazete tracks back to intercept Jordan Courtney-Perkins, who was looking to drive down the left wing before delivering a cross into the box. Sydney FC remain firmly on the attack, but time is fast running out for them.
90+5'
Zac De Jesus commits a needless foul deep inside the Roar half, which allows the visitors to edge ever closer to full-time with their one goal lead intact.
90+4'
Tiago Quintal drives inside from the right touchline, before squeezing the ball through to Corey Hollman. He turns on the ball, but sees his cutback attempt intercepted on the right edge of the Roar penalty area. Brisbane eventually win a goal kick and Macklin Freke eats up more precious seconds, before launching the ball long downfield.
90+2'
Sydney FC are all out attack, but the whole Brisbane team is back behind the ball to protect their goal. Anas Ouahim strikes left-footed from just outside the area, but it is blocked by Lucas Herrington next to the penalty spot.
