The 10 men of Melbourne City hang on for a huge three points, as their new season starts in ideal fashion. The only goal of the game came courtesy of Marco Tilio inside the opening two minutes, but that was just the start of the drama at McDonald Jones Stadium. Newcastle Jets landed plenty of punches as the game wore on, and with 20 minutes to go, they found themselves with a man advantage after James Jeggo needlessly stamped on Eli Adams and was shown a straight red card. But for all their possession, the hosts just couldn't unlock the City Blues' defence. In the end, it's a clean sheet on debut for Patrick Beach, and Melbourne's 100th clean sheet overall in the A-League. It wasn't pretty, it wasn't easy, but Aurelio Vidmar's side have got the job done on the opening weekend.
