That wraps up our coverage of this A League Men's clash between Melbourne City and Western United. If you are keen for more A League action, then head over to coverage of Brisbane Roar vs Newcastle Jets, which has just got underway. In the meantime, thank you for joining me, Zak Brown on Tribe!
This evening's win for Melbourne City lifts them up to 2nd on the A League ladder, ahead of Adelaide United on goal difference. Next up for Melbourne City is another home clash against struggling Brisbane Roar. Meanwhile, Western United will look to bounce back in another local derby away at Melbourne Victory in just three days' time.
Western United's unbeaten run comes to an end in disappointing fashion. They were architects of their own downfall at times, producing a series of mistakes playing out from the back. Goalkeeper Matt Sutton looked particularly shaky with the ball at his feet. Meanwhile, most long balls forward towards Hiroshi Ibusuki in the first half were misplaced, allowing Melbourne City to set their shape before building up from their own backline. Despite using all five substitutions, the Melbourne City goal remained unbreached, with Noah Botic spurning a late opportunity for a consolation goal.
The full-time whistle goes at AAMI Park and Melbourne City extend their unbeaten run to six games! It was a comfortable victory for the hosts in the end, who doubled their lead in the 59th minute courtesy of Ben Mazzeo, after a mistake by Tate Russell at the back for Western United. City could arguably have won by more, but with Western United never really looking like scoring, the two goal cushion was plenty for Melbourne City to hold onto.

Noah Botic blows a promising chance after being picked out by a nice diagonal pass from Rhys Bozinovski. Botic attempts a side-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area when he had plenty of time and space. The ball feebly rolls through to Patrick Beach, who has the simplest of saves to make.
90+2'
Matt Sutton hacks the ball forward for Western United, as they look for what would merely be a consolation goal at this point. Benjamin Dunbar applies heavy pressure on Rhys Bozinovski around halfway, forcing a loose forward pass which is intercepted at the Melbourne City backline.

Benjamin Dunbar hacks down Rhys Bozinovski with a hefty challenge by halfway. Bozinovski is incensed by the challenge and shoves Dunbar, before players from both teams jump in. The referee eventually takes control of the situation, before dishing out the yellow card to Bozinovski for his unsavoury reaction. Dunbar is also booked for the challenge.
