That wraps things up from this one in Gosford, but thanks for joining us on Tribe. This is Ryan Nixon (@NewYorkNixon) signing off.
As for the Mariners, they'll be wondering just when this season is going to turn a corner. That's back to back home defeats where they've shipped four goals, and they remain well outside the top six as things stand. The defensive effort was especially problematic today, but they also looked rather one dimensional going forward, with only Lucas Mauragis (who ended up going off injured with what looked a serious quad strain) and Mikael Doka really offering anything going forward. All in all, they did little to test Alex Paulsen, who was only beaten by a heavy deflection early in the first half.
Steve Corica was pretty blunt in his assessment of the loss to Western United, and will be thrilled with the way his side came out this evening, in warm conditions. They never let the Mariners settle, pressing high up the pitch to force errors, and utilising long balls to ask plenty of questions of the Mariners' back three. Brian Kaltak struggled to contain both Guillermo May and Liam Gillion, which no doubt helped bring the change of shape in the second half, as they reverted to a back four. It was too late by then, as things transpired, and further deepens the woes of the defending champions.
BACK TO WINNING WAYS! A dominant display from the league leaders sees them bounce back from their first loss in fine style, controlling the first half to establish a comfortable lead at the break, and then defending astutely in the second half to ensure they took home the points. It was a fantastic response, showing far greater energy and intent in their play, pressing high, forcing errors from the Mariners and then turning their relentless pressure into goals. Guillermo May and Liam Gillion asked plenty of questions with their work up top, while the service from wide from Francis De Vries was outstanding. It ensured the game was all but out of reach at halftime, and while the Mariners changed shape in the second half and were much improved, they struggled to generate any gilt edged chances to get themselves back in the game.

Doka shoots from the free kick, getting it over the wall, but not on target.

Cards flying all of a sudden! Auckland win the ball back, but Smith is unable to release the counter, and then gives away a free kick, and gets booked for his troubles.

Another rather needless yellow, as Gallegos fouls Brandtman, and then wants to go on with things as there's a bit of a set to. Feijao gets involved too, and earns a booking as well.
