Day 1 - Tea
With the game slipping away from the visitors' grasp, Pant and Reddy tried to counter-attack by stitching a vital 48-run stand for the 7th wicket. The duo held the Indian innings together throughout the second session and tried to keep them afloat. It was mesmerizing to see Reddy play an attacking brand of cricket, especially against Lyon but was lucky to survive a close call against Mitch Starc relatively early in his innings. Pant too was riding his luck as he was put down by Cummins on 14 off the bowling of Starc. He went on to add 23 more useful runs before being dismissed by Cummins during the 46th over. From there on, the Indian innings capitulated and eventually crashed out with a score of 150 on the board. Join us back for the third session right after the Tea interval.
Innings Break
India have been bowled out for 150. After opting to bat first, the visitors would have ideally hoped for a better output with the bat. Reddy has had an impressive debut smashing 41 (59) giving the Indian bowlers some cushion to bowl. Pant looked solid at the crease too despite surviving a few close calls but it is the Australian quicks who have dominated the show so far here in Perth. We will find out shortly how there batters fare on this pacy Perth pitch in the final session.

The two legends, Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar, step onto the field with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy followed by the teams and match officials who make their way to the ground for the National Anthems. We start with the anthem of India, followed by that of Australia. Live action is coming shortly.
Pitch Report: The experts reckon that it looks like a typical Perth wicket. It's hard underneath and there is a nice covering of the grass. There will be pace and bounce on offer with the batters having to grind it out to get the runs.
Team News: Nitish Reddy and Harshit Rana are making their debuts in the longest format for India while Nathan McSweeney bags his maiden cap for Australia.
Toss Update: India have won the toss and opted to BAT.
Will India defy the odds and start the series on a high in Perth or will Australia capitalize on home conditions and go 1-0 up? The stage is set for an exciting encounter. Toss and team news coming up shortly. Stay tuned!
Jasprit Bumrah steps in as captain, and he’ll need to carefully balance his XI for the challenging conditions in Perth. Key players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja will need to step up, while young talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Reddy, and Harshit Rana are names to watch. India has had success on Australian soil in recent years, winning the series in 2018-19 and 2020-21. However, with Australia firing on all cylinders, India will need a strong start to maintain their momentum.
On the other hand, India is under significant pressure following a disappointing 3-0 whitewash at home against New Zealand. With the fate of several senior players hanging in the balance, this tour will be crucial for India’s red-ball future. Adding to their challenges, India will be without skipper Rohit Sharma for the first Test due to personal reasons, while star batter Shubman Gill is also sidelined with a fractured thumb.
The rest of the lineup looks settled, with the formidable pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood leading the attack, while Nathan Lyon remains the sole spinner. Josh Inglis and Scott Boland are likely to be backup options in the squad. With a fast, bouncy pitch expected, the Aussies will be eager to take control early and go 1-0 up in the series.
Australia’s most recent Test was back in March when they completed a dominant 2-0 series sweep against New Zealand. After a long break from red-ball cricket, the Aussies have had plenty of preparation in the Sheffield Shield, with most of the squad getting match fitness in the domestic competition. Australia’s squad is largely as expected, with a couple of fresh faces, including Nathan McSweeney, who steps into the opening slot following David Warner’s retirement. McSweeney has never opened in first-class cricket but has been selected for his potential to thrive in the role.
It’s time for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the stage is set for a blockbuster series Down Under.
