Ravi Shastri and Mark Taylor make their way out to the middle with the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The teams follow suit and line up for the national anthem ceremony.
Pitch Report: Too much grass says Sunil Gavaskar. The surface will offer a lot of bounce and the new ball is expected to zip around exponentially. Besides, the overhead conditions will also play to the advantage of the seamers. Batting in the first session could be very tricky as per Gavaskar and he expects the Indian batters to grind hard early on.
Toss Update: Bumrah calls it right at the coin toss! India chose to BAT FIRST. It's fairly overcast here in Sydney and Australia may not mind bowling first. It's a good toss to lose for the hosts. Two big changes for India. Rohit has been rested and Gill makes his way in. Prasidh Krishna comes in place of Akash Deep.
Big news coming in from SCG! Rohit Sharma has been rested and Shbuman Gill replaces him in the playing eleven. Bumrah will lead the Indian side today.
The Indian skipper has earned a bad name for himself and has attracted a lot of negative criticism for his flop show with the bat. Rohit averages a shocking 6.5 with the bat and even someone like Scotty Boland who bats at no.11 has faced more deliveries than him in this entire series. He has also let himself down as a captain often setting up defensive fields in situations that demanded him to be more aggressive. Virat’s poor show with the bat has also hurt India. Apart from the stunning century in Perth, Kohli has gone hot and cold with the bat and bowlers have had immense success in exploiting his weakness outside the off-stump channel. With their backs placed firmly against the wall, India will need to bounce back strong to square the series. But they will have to make do without their ace pacer Akash Deep who has been ruled out due to a back injury.
Meanwhile, there is trouble brewing in the Indian camp. Not all is going well for the tourists. Following their historic 295-run win at Perth, the team has come crashing down and has lost their way as the series progressed. Besides, they are also in real danger of losing the race to the WTC final. In addition, reports of a potential rift within the Indian dressing room also emerged. However, those claims were rubbished by the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir in his recent press conference. The team is faltering in all departments. Bumrah has been carrying the Indian team on his shoulders throughout the entirety of the series but we are now starting to see signs of wear and tear from him.
But come the fourth Test, Australia’s resilience was seriously put to the test. After overcoming several twists and turns, Australia managed to triumph in the final hour of the Test match and outclassed India by a mammoth 184 runs. Smith seems to be regaining his lost form and there are some positive signs for him leading into the final Test. With form on their side, Australia will certainly go for the kill and will aim to wrap up the series and confirm their spot for the upcoming WTC final. Beau Webster is all set to make his debut for Australia replacing an out-of-form Mitch Marsh whereas Starc will be in action today despite reporting a stiff back in the MCG Test.
Australia are in the ascendancy now. They lead the series by 2-1 and have one hand on the trophy. The home side has gone winless in the previous BGT editions since 2014 but they now have a perfect chance of redeeming themselves and restoring their lost pride. Following a horror show in Perth, the Australian team completely flipped the script and turned the tables on the tourists who are now facing a lot of heat. The pink-ball Test win in Adelaide tremendously did their confidence a whole world of good. Travis Head starred in that match with a brilliant 140. Then moving on to the Gabba Test, rain affected proceedings on all five days and Australia frustrating had to settle for a draw despite being in a very commanding position.
Hello and a grand welcome to the final Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series (2024-25) between Australia and India from Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The Boxing Day MCG Test was an absolute box office! A record 373,691 spectators turned up over the course of five days to witness a match that was packed with intense drama. We expect the SCG to be a full-house too so brace yourself for yet another fiery showdown between the two sides. My name is Datrim Singha Ray and I am delighted to bring you all the live action from this high-octane Test match along with Vatsal Negandhi and Navjeevan Rajput who will be joining us shortly.
