So, the Lankan openers will come out to bat shortly. We still have around 40-45 minutes left in the day so if the weather permits, we should get some decent amount of play in before Stumps. Stay tuned as we will be back shortly.

Right then, the umpires and the players are making their way out to the middle for the national anthems. It will be Australia's national anthem first followed by that of Sri Lanka. Live action on Day 1 is moments away.
Pitch report: There was rain around in Galle for the last few days but the sun is shining bright today. The pitch has live grass covering but it's very little and there is some moisture underneath. As it's Galle, spinners will certainly dominate proceedings.
So, Australia have won the toss and decided to bat first. Josh Inglis makes his Test debut for them. They have included three spinners and a pacer in the lineup. Sri Lanka are also going with three spinners and a fast bowler.
Australia haven't managed to win the series on their last two tours of Sri Lanka and they want to change that this time. On the other hand, Sri Lanka last dominated Australia back in 2016 when they won the series 3-0 and they look to repeat something similar here. The last time these two teams played back in 2022, it was a period when Sri Lanka as a nation was in the middle of a financial crisis but their team was able to pull off an inspiring win against the Aussies to draw the series after being behind. Regardless, the two teams come fresh into this series so it should be a fascinating Test to witness, stay tuned.
Meanwhile, Australia are coming off a brilliant series win against India in the BGT which they claimed for the first time in almost a decade. Winning BGT also meant they qualified for the WTC 2023-25 Final which will be played in June. In a series that tested them thoroughly, they showed great resolve with the bat and their bowlers were on top. so the Aussies will be confident coming in this series. However, Australia will miss the services of their skipper Pat Cummins who has opted out due to the imminent birth of his second child so Steve Smith will lead them on this tour. Despite the qualification for the Finals being sealed, the defending champs would look to test themselves out here.
So, the Warne-Murlitharan Trophy is back with Sri Lanka hosting it. Sri Lanka haven't had the best of times recently in the red-ball format of the game as they lost a three-match series against England 1-2 in September and also lost a two-match Test series against South Africa 0-2 in December which includes the horrific 42 all out. The side led by Dhananjaya de Silva has performed in patches and unfortunately has been playing catch up compared to their opponents. Despite the failures, they have stuck with most of their experienced players who look to perform better. Coming into this series and playing at home, the Lankan players will be eager to bounce back and finish the WTC 2023-25 on a winning note.
Hello everyone, and welcome to Tribe for live coverage of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Australia. I'm Navjeevan Rajput, and along with Vatsal Negandhi, we will bring you everything that unfolds throughout the opening day of this Test from the picturesque Galle.
